Job summary

CliftonLarsonAllen LLP (CLA) is seeking a Controller with logistics industry experience to join its CAAS team. The role involves directing budgeting, financial reporting, and strategic financial leadership for logistics clients across distribution, trucking, warehousing, and 3PL sectors in the Minnesota market.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, 7+ years of accounting/finance experience (public accounting preferred) and strong Excel/QuickBooks skills.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree required. CPA preferred but not required.
• 7 years of relevant accounting/financial experience; logistics industry experience preferred.
• QuickBooks experience highly preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for budgeting, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and direct financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities; prepare financial information.
• Prepare/ direct preparation of financial statements, activity reports, forecasts, budgets, or regulatory reports.
• Evaluate procurement needs for funds and invest surpluses; make recommendations.
• Monitor KPIs and financial performance.
• Assess and improve performance of accounting staff; implement actions.
• Advise management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
• Communicate with boards, bankers, investors, and stakeholders; assist with board presentations.

As a member of CLA's CAAS practice, you will be an integral part of the CLA client service team and will work directly 1:1 with our clients to provide customized accounting services to support them as they manage and grow their business or organization.

CLA is looking for a Controller with Logistics industry experience, to join our CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice. Our logistics team primarily serves clients across the distribution, trucking and transportation, warehousing, and third-party logistics (3PL) sectors, providing outsourced accounting and strategic financial leadership solutions.

Job Description

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and directs the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization. Prepare financial information.
• Prepare and/or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitor and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

Education/Experience

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience: 7 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required (logistics industry experience is highly preferred). Public accounting experience preferred.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. QuickBooks experience is highly preferred.
• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
• Travel: This position requires working primarily in-office, including local travel to/from client sites (depending on location), as well as occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.

• An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting

The compensation range for this position in Minnesota is: $98,000.00 - $168,000.00
