Job description

CorVel Corporation is hiring a caring, self-motivated, energetic, and independent registered nurse to fill a Medical Case Manager position.

This role offers the flexibility to work from home and on the road, Monday – Friday, during regular business hours.

As a Medical Case Manager, you will make a meaningful difference in the lives of injured workers and their families. Your responsibilities include working closely with injured workers to facilitate their recovery. You will collaborate with the patient, their family, medical providers, team members, and others. This position involves significant local travel, managing a caseload of workers' compensation injured workers within a defined jurisdiction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide Medical Case Management through in-person and telephonic communication with patients, physicians, healthcare providers, employers, and others.
  • Use medical and nursing knowledge to discuss current treatment plans with physicians and consider alternative options.
  • Evaluate treatment plans for appropriateness, medical necessity, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patients’ progress.
  • Attend doctors' visits, provider meetings, home visits, and, in some cases, attorney visits.
  • Participate in hospital and long-term care discharge planning conferences to determine care appropriateness and develop long-term care strategies. Conduct initial home evaluations.
  • Coordinate care, including negotiating the delivery of durable medical equipment and nursing services.
  • This role requires regular local travel, approximately up to 60% of the work week/month, and may include overnight travel.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Effective communication and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Experience as an RN or Medical Case Manager is preferred; a clinical background in orthopedics, neurology, or rehabilitation is advantageous.
  • Ability to meet with patients, physicians, healthcare providers, attorneys, and colleagues.
  • Background in cost containment, utilization review, or managed care is helpful.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of operation.
  • Preferred certifications include CCM, CIRS, or other case management credentials.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to assigned locations.
PAY RANGE:

Pay ranges from $31.46 to $47.59 per hour, depending on location, experience, and qualifications. CorVel uses a market-based approach for compensation, which may be adjusted at any time.

New hires may be placed at different levels (I, II, III, Senior, Lead, etc.) based on assessment during the interview process, which can affect salary ranges. These details will be clarified during the offer stage.
