Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin's Applied Research Laboratories is seeking a Software Engineering Scientist to develop high-performance C++ software for Linux in a distributed, containerized environment. You will work on sonar and networked systems, contributing to algorithm design, verification, and performance assessment.

The role emphasizes multi-threaded development, Linux administration, and integration with CI/CD pipelines within an Agile framework.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline.
  • Three years of software development experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Proficiency in C++ software development in Linux.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts, data structures, design patterns and algorithm analysis.
  • Experience with Linux and open source tools for development, testing, version control and documentation.
  • Experience with multi-threaded software development and debugging.
  • Experience with distributed software models and microservices.
  • Experience with TCP/IP TCP/UDP Socket programming in Linux.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex software systems.
  • Working-level understanding of Linux operating systems and administration.
  • US Citizen.
  • Selected applicant is subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high performance, systems-based distributed software in C++ for advanced signal processing, control, health and status monitoring and GUI components in Linux.
  • Design and develop distributed software that runs within containerized and orchestrated environments.
  • Incrementally test, troubleshoot and verify the software and its performance via unit and system tests.
  • Create test automation for all aspects of the system, including unit and system level tests, aligned with Agile and CI/CD.
  • Document design and implementation clearly and address issues.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
