Job summary

SAS in Cary, North Carolina is seeking a C Software Developer to design, develop, and debug software across Windows, Unix, and MVS environments. You will collaborate with managers, developers, and product teams to deliver high-quality code for our SAS language and server tier.

You will own the full software lifecycle, write tests, contribute to design docs, and participate in open‑source efforts. A Bachelor's in CS and 5 years of C development experience are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • 5 years of software development experience in C and familiarity with Java.
  • General knowledge of software development tools, methodologies, and principles.
  • Proficient in source control management (branching, code review, merging), including Git and Gerrit.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix and Windows; MVS experience a plus.
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

About the job

The Base SAS team is looking for a C Software Developer to design, develop, and debug software of diverse scope for new and existing products in accordance with designated development practices, timelines and quality expectations, working on a core code base primarily written in C and some Java on Unix, Windows and MVS environments.Our team supports and develops the SAS language and servers as part of the server tier of the SAS9 architecture, enabling SAS customers to access, explore, prepare, analyze, and share data.

As a C Software Developer, you will:
  • Design and develop high-quality, testable, and scalable software within deadlines, following R&D best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., managers, developers, designers, product managers) to ensure solutions meet functional requirements and R&D standards.

Required qualifications

  • 5 years of software development experience in C and familiarity with Java.
