Job summary

Coffey Health System in Burlington, KS is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) to respond to medical emergencies, assess injuries, and provide pre-hospital care. You will transport patients to facilities and work with the EMS team to stabilize and monitor patients during ambulance transport.

The role requires Kansas EMT-B certification, a Kansas driver's license, and strong ability to follow directions, communicate clearly with dispatchers and medical staff, and maintain

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a State of Kansas approved Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Training course.
  • Current Kansas EMT certification and Kansas Driver’s license
  • ACLS and PALS certification is recommended

Responsibilities

  • Respond to medical emergencies by vehicle or other means and transport patients to facilities.
  • Assess injuries and provide emergency care including basic life support and ECG monitoring as needed.
  • Immobilize patients and operate ambulance equipment; maintain vehicle and supplies.
  • Communicate with dispatchers and treatment centers to relay patient information and instructions.
  • Provide patient comfort and safety and decontaminate ambulance after infectious cases.

Assess injuries, administer emergency medical care, and extricate trapped individuals. Transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities.**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.* Administer first-aid treatment and life-support care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital setting.* Perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures, such as airway management or heart monitoring, during ambulance ride.* Observe, record, and report to physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs and treatment.* Immobilize patient for placement on stretcher and ambulance transport, using backboard or another spinal immobilization device.* Maintain vehicles and medical and communication equipment, and replenish first-aid equipment and supplies.* Assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures.* Communicate with dispatchers and treatment center personnel to provide information about situation, to arrange reception of victims, and to receive instructions for further treatment.* Comfort and reassure patients.* Decontaminate ambulance interior following treatment of patient with infectious disease and report case to proper authorities.* Operate equipment such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), external defibrillators and bag-valve mask resuscitators in basic life-support environments.* Drive ambulances to specified location, following instructions from emergency medical dispatcher.* Coordinate with treatment center personnel to obtain patients vital statistics and medical history, to determine the circumstances of the emergency, and to administer emergency treatment.* Coordinate work with other emergency medical team members and police and fire department personnel.* Attend training classes to maintain certification licensure, keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge.* Follow the CHS Code of Conduct and work within the personnel and department-based policies.* Other duties may be assigned.## Qualifications**Qualifications:** *To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
