Job Description

Position Summary:

Class C Lineman is an entry-level position involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The role may require travel to various locations or other states based on customer demands.

Essential Functions

1. Work safely during construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized overhead systems.
2. String overhead wire.
3. Set poles and anchors.
4. Assist in installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
5. Help replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits.
6. Work with energized high voltage systems requiring caution and skill.
7. Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
8. Perform related tasks as needed to complete the job.

Minimum Requirements

1. 1-2 years of relevant experience.
2. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
3. Ability to identify primary and secondary voltages.
4. Familiarity with induced voltage.
5. Assist with installation and hookup of single-phase transformers.
6. Ability to safely set poles.
7. Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
8. Proper use of PPE and cover-up.
9. Check transformer voltages.
10. Install and remove services.
11. Inspect rubber goods and PPE.
12. Climb various structures and possess necessary tools.
13. Tie lineman knots and make up hand lines.
14. Understand grounding procedures and equipment setup.
15. Identify different line materials.
16. Travel long distances on short notice.
17. Work in various locations for extended periods.
18. Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License; preferred but not mandatory.
19. Lift over 50 lbs.
20. Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
21. Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands

Requires talking, hearing, standing, walking, handling, reaching, and physical endurance to perform duties effectively.

Work Environment

Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme conditions. Work is performed outdoors in weather conditions, often in noisy environments.
