American Family Care is seeking a Basic X-Ray Machine Operator (BXMO) for full-time roles in our urgent care centers. The job blends patient care, imaging, and registration tasks, requiring a completed MA program and active MA certification. Florida BXMO license is required, with Alabama limit scope X-ray license also acceptable.

Expect a fast-paced environment with flexibility for evenings/weekends. Experience in EMR systems and payer portals, along with venipuncture skills, is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
• Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within onboarding period.
• Alabama: Active Limited Scope X-Ray license required.
• Florida: Active BXMO license required.
• 1+ year MA experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Urgent care or ER experience valued.
• Proficiency with EMR and payer portals.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, venipuncture and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing.
• Perform limited X-ray exams (as licensed).
• Register patients, verify eligibility and financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile logs, ensure EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on procedures and imaging, provide discharge instructions with empathy.
• Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs and safety standards.

BXMO: Basic X-Ray Machine Operator, Full-Time

At AFC, our cross-trained Medical Assistants / BXMOs are the heartbeat of the clinic - blending patient care, imaging, insurance verification, and administrative support to keep our centers running smoothly. Whether you’re triaging a patient, taking an X-ray, or verifying insurance at registration, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring patients receive safe, accurate, and timely care.

What you’ll do

• Clinical Care: Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, perform venipuncture and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing (COVID, flu, strep, glucose, A1C, UA, etc.), assist with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, and nebulizer therapy.
• X-Ray Imaging: Perform limited scope/basic X-ray exams (chest, extremities, spine) as licensed in Alabama or Florida. Prepare and position patients, operate imaging equipment safely, and ensure ALARA compliance. Maintain logs and QC checks.
• Patient Registration & Insurance Verification: Register patients, verify eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile logs, and maintain EMR accuracy.
• Patient Service: Educate patients on procedures and imaging, provide clear discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism.
• Team & Compliance: Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs (crash cart, fridge temps, dosimetry), support infection-control, HIPAA, and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
• Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within defined onboarding period.
• Alabama: Active Limited Scope X-Ray license required.
• Florida: Active Basic X-Ray Machine Operator (BXMO) license required.
• At least 1+ year of MA experience with insurance verification and patient registration required.
• Urgent care or ER experience highly valued.
• Proficiency with EMR (Experity preferred) and payer portals (e.g., Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Additional requirements

• Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check.
• Ability to work evenings/weekends and float to nearby centers as needed.

Work environment

Fast-paced urgent care with frequent role-switching; prolonged standing/walking; occasional lifting (25-30 lbs); routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and ionizing radiation (strict PPE and safety standards required).

Final compensation offers will be determined based on a combination of factors, including experience, certifications, education, and geographic location.
