Job summary

• Negotiates best pricing, places purchase orders, and resolves billing and shipping problems; assists engineering with prototyping purchases.

Summary/Objective

The Buyer/Planner manages company expenditure for materials and/or services to support the company's

purchasing programs, inventories, development materials, tooling and related Engineering services. This position is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the company's needs for indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality and at delivery competitive levels consistent with company policy and performance standards.

• Plans inventory and product related purchases and delivery schedules to meet sales demand, inventory target metrics as outlined, and to minimize inventory related costs including inbound shipping costs and meet product cost targets.
• Ensures suppliers meet delivery dates and adjust shipping schedules to match changes in sales demand and backlog and meet overall inventory target metrics as outlined.
• Management of supplier base including anticipating issues that affect ability to meet sales demand and take actions to eliminate identified issues (e.g. long lead time components, supplier credit limits and supplier account status).
• Exercises best judgment in material commitments in view of impacts on the company and its supplier base due to product revision changes and end-of-life product transitions and communicating such anticipated changes timely to affected suppliers with the goal to minimize excess inventory exposure resulting from these types of product changes.
• Defines and maintains minimum safe quantities of product inventory and other supplies.
• Identifies suppliers and negotiates best pricing.
• Places purchase orders with suppliers for inventory, engineering prototypes, technical supplies, packaging, and other purchasing requirements.
• Resolves billing and shipping problems, organizes and coordinates RMAs to suppliers for warranty, repair, and replacements.
• Supports Engineering with purchasing and planning regarding prototype builds and new product development
