Job description

Buyer Planner position manages the activities throughout the organization to ensure that customer orders are rescheduled, manufactured, finished, and shipped as efficiently as possible to achieve financial goals and meet customer delivery dates.

Planner/Buyer continuously monitors raw material and component inventory levels and places purchase orders with suppliers to meet order requirements of the scheduling and production process to increase efficiency and productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain positive relationships and working atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that promotes productivity, respect and collaboration among team members, management, suppliers, and customers.
  • Determine, plan, schedule, coordinate, and monitor the flow of materials and products through the complete production cycle.
  • Establish the most efficient equipment to manufacture each job based on capabilities, capacities, current order demand, and the technical experience and availability of production staff.
  • Creates and manages production schedules to meet delivery dates and maximize manufacturing output.
  • Plan and monitor work in process according to production priorities, customer demand, and operational capabilities.
  • Creates and modifies production schedule as required and communicates changes to customer service to ensure updated information is relayed to customers.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve bottlenecks that may result in production delays. Exercises judgment to take prompt appropriate actions.
  • Creates and publishes production planning and capacity analysis reports to proactively drive manufacturing efficiency and on-time delivery. Determines corrective action if jobs don’t run as expected.
  • Liaisons between production and purchasing regarding raw material requirements. Expedite supplier purchase orders as required.
  • Utilizes ERP system to ensure accurate information, manufacturing instructions, tickets, and reports are issued in a timely manner to support production and meet order requirements. Creates, and analyzes reports regularly to make decisions around scheduling, manufacturing, finishing, and shipping.
  • Creates, submits and manages purchase orders with suppliers to meet production schedule, operational and office requirements.
  • Creates reports from ERP to maintain, measure and accurately report material inventory. Provides directions to management team regarding inventory levels and cost. Completes physical inventory as required and reconciles discrepancies with ERP system.
  • Engages and contributes to the continuous improvement activities by participating and providing thoughtful consideration and suggestions for improvements throughout our business.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to create and understand production and capacity planning reports.
  • Ability to multi-task, solve problems and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and order workflow to maximize the effective manufacture of products.
  • Adherence to all safety requirements and procedures.
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Demands

Work Environment

While performing the duties of position the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, low risk of static shock, and wet and/or humid conditions. Individuals will come in contact with cleaning solvents at press side. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
