Job summary

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated is seeking a Buyer/Planner to support manufacturing by planning, purchasing and coordinating materials to meet production schedules and customer requirements. You will collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality and Suppliers to optimize inventory, mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvement.

Experience with ERP/MRP (SAP preferred) and strong Excel, communication and negotiation skills are required.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of purchasing, planning, manufacturing, or supply chain experience.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment. (SAP Preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain production and material plans based on demand forecasts, customer orders, and manufacturing schedules.
  • Issue and maintain Production Work Orders
  • Review MRP messages and take appropriate actions to ensure material availability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and adjust planning parameters to optimize supply and demand alignment.
  • Coordinate with production teams to resolve material shortages and schedule changes.
  • Support capacity planning efforts by balancing material availability with manufacturing requirements.
  • Create and manage purchase orders for raw materials, components, tooling, and indirect supplies.
  • Maintain supplier delivery schedules and expedite orders when required.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and delivery commitments with suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost.
  • Ensure purchase orders are accurate and comply with company procurement policies.
  • Maintain inventory levels that support production while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Analyze inventory trends and implement actions to improve inventory turns and accuracy.
  • Participate in cycle count reviews and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Manage excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory reduction initiatives.
  • Develop strong supplier relationships to improve reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address shortages, quality issues, and delivery concerns.
  • Support supplier risk management and continuity planning activities.
  • Assist with supplier qualification and performance review processes.
  • Work closely with Engineering on new product introductions and engineering change implementation.
  • Partner with Quality to ensure supplier compliance with quality requirements.
  • Support Operations and Program Management teams in achieving customer delivery commitments.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing supply chain performance.
  • Other duties as required

Summary
Job Description

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for planning, purchasing, and coordinating materials required to support manufacturing operations while maintaining optimal inventory levels. This role ensures the timely procurement of raw materials, components, and services to meet production schedules, customer requirements, and company objectives. The Buyer/Planner works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Suppliers to mitigate supply chain risks, manage inventory investments, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience/familiarity with cable/harness production and procurement
  • Experience in a defense, aerospace, electronics, or highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with supplier performance management and inventory optimization.
  • Familiarity with ITAR, DFARS, and government contracting requirements.
  • Experience working in ISO9001 and/or ASM9100 QMS environment

Salary Range

$74,300.00-$99,100.000

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, local regulations (such as minimum wage), education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
