Job summary

Marotta Controls is seeking a Buyer II to manage the full life cycle of defined subcontracts, from strategy development to award, cost and schedule management, execution and closeout. The role collaborates with Supply Chain, Contracts, Program Management and Engineering to optimize processes and ensure on-time delivery of new products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, technical or administration (or at least 5 years of experience).
  • 3+ years of experience with make-to-print machined parts, electro-mechanical components, and/or electronic assemblies.
  • Ability to understand/read blueprints is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to define, manage and execute operational plans to meet strategic procurement decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills for interactions at all levels.
  • Computer literate, with MS Office experience, proficient PC skills, and MRP/ERP knowledge.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and vet new sources, place and maintain purchase orders.
  • Review requisitions for accuracy of requirements.
  • Lead and influence cross-functional stakeholders to consensus on procurement decisions.
  • Contact suppliers regarding order status, discrepancies, and supply issues.
  • Manage parts shortages caused by delivery delays, non-conforming material or other problems.
  • Reschedule purchase orders to meet changing customer needs.
  • Process and coordinate replacement of non-conforming material.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for price, availability and delivery schedules.
  • Solicit and analyze quotes for a wide variety of services and commodities.
  • Recommend suppliers based on cost, quality and delivery competitiveness.
  • Interface with manufacturing, engineering, quality and management for status reports and problem resolution.
  • Participate in internal program meetings.
  • Prepare bid requests for proposal.
  • Utilize the company's inventory tracking system.

Location: Parsippany, NJ
Pay Range: $85,500 - $100,000 per year

Position Profile

This role is responsible for overseeing the entire life cycle of defined subcontracts, from developing acquisition strategies and source selection to negotiation, award, cost and schedule management, execution, and closeout. The Buyer II collaborates with Supply Chain, Contracts, Program Management, and Engineering to optimize processes and ensure on‑time delivery of new products. Strong leadership skills, subcontract management expertise, and effective communication with stakeholders are essential. The position reports to the Director of Supply Chain.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, technical or administration (or at least 5 years of experience)

Work Environment
  • Professional office environment and manufacturing/machine shop environment
  • Exposure to fluids, fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • Temperature may vary with external conditions and machining processes
  • Full‑time position; overtime and weekend work may be required as needed
  • Local travel may be expected
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to talk, hear and read
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus; must pass job‑required vision screening
  • Frequent reaching, handling and using hands to finger, handle or feel
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop or crouch and move about the facility

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive base salary ranging from $85,500 to $100,000 per year, determined on a case‑by‑case basis. Additional benefits include incentive compensation, medical, prescription, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, tuition assistance, paid vacation, sick and personal days, paid holidays and flexible scheduling options such as compressed workweeks.
