Job summary

JR Automation, a Hitachi Group Company, is seeking a Buyer I in Nashville, TN to convert BOM requirements into purchase orders for mechanical and electrical components and to maintain ERP data.

You will collaborate with engineering, build teams, and suppliers to expedite materials, monitor deliveries, and support cost-effective sourcing while ensuring on-time project milestones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Current or prior JR Automation experience or automation industry experience preferred.
  • Procurement or sourcing experience in manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, robotics, or engineered-to-order environment.
  • Experience managing project-based purchasing from kickoff through installation or commissioning.
  • Basic understanding of ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Plex, IFS).
  • Working knowledge of Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, basic formulas).
  • Understanding of standard industrial components (pneumatics, sensors, fasteners, electrical hardware).
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, competitive quoting, and supplier evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Translate BOM requirements into accurate and timely purchase orders for mechanical and electrical components.
  • Maintain up-to-date pricing, lead times, and supplier acknowledgments in the ERP system.
  • Monitor open orders and expedite materials to meet timelines and milestones.
  • Collaborate with Machine Build, Controls, and cross-functional teams to resolve shortages.
  • Support sourcing for standard components including fasteners, pneumatics, electrical hardware and shop consumables.
  • Administer returns, replacements, and RMA processes; resolve invoice deviations and receipts discrepancies.
  • Partner with ERP Data Specialists to maintain master data such as lead times and approved vendors.
  • Obtain competitive quotations for routine and low-complexity purchases to support procurement decisions.
  • Monitor and report procurement KPIs like on-time delivery and material shortage closure rates.

Location Type: This is a full-time, hourly position based onsite in Nashville, TN.

Role Overview

The Buyer is responsible for managing project-based purchasing by converting BOM requirements into accurate purchase orders, maintaining ERP data, and proactively expediting materials to support manufacturing and project milestones. The position collaborates closely with engineering, build teams, and suppliers to resolve material shortages, ensure on-time delivery, and support cost-effective sourcing.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Translate bill of material (BOM) requirements into accurate and timely purchase orders for mechanical and electrical components.
  • Validate and maintain up-to-date pricing, lead times, delivery commitments, and supplier acknowledgments within the ERP system.
  • Monitor open orders and proactively expedite materials to meet project timelines, build milestones, and FAT deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Machine Build, Controls, and cross-functional teams to identify, communicate, and resolve material shortages.
  • Support sourcing activities for standard components, including fasteners, pneumatics, electrical hardware, safety devices, and shop consumables.
  • Administer returns, replacements, and RMA processes while resolving invoice deviations and receipt discrepancies to ensure accurate financial reconciliation.
  • Partner with ERP Data Specialists to maintain high-quality master data, including accurate lead times, minimum order quantities, approved vendors, and part-level documentation.
  • Assist in obtaining competitive quotations for routine and low-complexity purchases to support cost-effective procurement decisions.
  • Monitor and report essential procurement performance indicators, including on-time delivery, past-due purchase order lines, supplier confirmation cycle times, and material shortage closure rates.

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Current or prior JR Automation experience, or experience in the automation industry is strongly preferred.
  • Procurement or sourcing experience in a manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, robotics, or engineered‑to‑order environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project‑based purchasing from kickoff through installation or commissioning.
  • Background purchasing low‑volume, high‑mix engineered components and custom assemblies is strongly preferred.
  • Basic understanding and can use ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Plex, IFS, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, basic formulas).
  • Understanding of standard industrial components (pneumatics, sensors, fasteners, electrical hardware, safety devices).
  • Basic knowledge of procurement processes, competitive quoting, and supplier evaluation.
