Summary

The MRO Buyer represents the company and is responsible for purchasing goods and services used in maintenance, equipment, building, office, and production within a manufacturing environment. The buyer must determine the best supplier, value, and delivery for these products and services while regularly interacting with manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, quality, and other functional staff to identify supply needs and deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of requisitions and purchasing for MRO goods and services, considering cost effectiveness and alternate solutions.
  • Ensure appropriate approval is provided with the requisition, following current Delegation of Authority requirements.
  • Reference requisition, BOM, technical data, prints, catalogs, and previous history to obtain specifications and historical prices.
  • Facilitate bids, analysis, and negotiations for MRO goods and services.
  • Identify the best product for the most competitive cost, not only price.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery, terms, and conditions.
  • Assist in negotiation of contracts for VMI material.
  • Target purchase price to be equal to or less than historical (standard).
  • Purchase from approved vendors when required.
  • Ensure technical data and pertinent information flows down to suppliers at the time of quote and purchase.
  • Consult with requestors when questions arise.
  • Verify acquisitions meet all requirements.
  • Assess purchase orders for accuracy and compliance with requirements.
  • Communicate essential information to requestors and report on progress.
  • Electronically save requisition, quote, PO, and other pertinent information following save protocol.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for price and invoice queries related to MRO.
  • Be proactive and willing to provide general support.
  • Frequently review aging POs and disposition accordingly.
  • Ensure MSC cabinets and tool crib are adequately stocked and operational.
  • Manage conflicts and communicate effectively.
  • Submit monthly credit card report by deadline.
  • Perform physical duties such as standing, walking, lifting up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally; maintain close vision and ability to adjust focus; be consistently on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from a four‑year college or university and three to five years of professional buying experience in a manufacturing setting and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
