Job summary

Job description

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Buyer position is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring raw materials, components, and services required to support production operations. The ideal candidate ensures on‑time delivery of materials that meet quality standards while optimizing inventory levels and costs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute purchase orders for direct and indirect materials based on demand, forecast, and replenishment signals, ensuring timely procurement of raw materials, electronics, and custom components.
  • Select, evaluate, and manage supplier relationships; maintain an Approved Supplier List and conduct supplier performance reviews (scorecards). Support new supplier onboarding and qualification processes.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and payment terms to achieve cost reductions and maximize return on investment (ROI).
  • Monitor open purchase orders, proactively follow up with suppliers, and expedite critical materials to prevent production shortages.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing data, lead times, MOQ, planning parameters, and pricing in the MRP system. Support cycle‑count variance resolution and inventory accuracy efforts.
  • Work closely with production, planning, engineering, accounts payable, and quality departments to align purchasing with production schedules and resolve discrepancies. Support engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Understand and adhere to quality standards, including ISO9001, IATF16949, and company purchasing policies. Support import compliance, supplier documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in tracking supply‑chain metrics such as Supplier On‑Time Delivery, Purchase Price Variance, and inventory metrics. Participate in continuous‑improvement initiatives, including lean and Kaizen events.
  • Actively model IDEX values: Team, Trust, and Excellence. Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Systems proficiency: Strong experience with MRP systems (JDE preferred).
  • Technical skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP) and ability to read technical drawings or bills of materials.
  • Soft skills: Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

3–5+ years of purchasing/procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted. Experience in metal stamping/forming manufacturing industry, preferred APICS or CPSM certification.

TOTAL REWARDS

Compensation range: $76,200.00 – $114,200.00, depending on experience. Position may be eligible for a performance‑based bonus plan.
