Job summary

SIFCO Industries, Inc., a premier publicly held supplier to the aerospace industry located in Cleveland, OH, seeks a qualified Buyer. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer handles the day‑to‑day responsibilities of the Purchasing Department that supports other departments and manufacturing.

The Buyer will interact with a diverse audience at various levels, prioritizing needs and making autonomous decisions to support efficient sourcing, vendor relations, and cost reduction initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting with an understanding of business flow and operations.
  • Strong Excel skills; proficiency with data extraction and reporting.
  • ERP / SAP experience strongly desired.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work independently and manage projects.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to provide accurate data.
  • Ability to interact with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and select vendors to procure requisitioned commodities, meeting criteria such as price, quantity, quality and delivery date, and issues purchase orders, expedites deliveries for MRO items, outside work and contract services.
  • Maintains and updates daily information for outside work pertaining to production.
  • Interacts with all departments to insure proper flow down of information for the purchase of goods and services.
  • Manages the supply of all plant supplies, office products, janitorial services, and other contracted services.
  • Interprets and communicates purchasing procedures to departments; assists departments in initiating requisitions and orders, and solves problems with orders.
  • Writes and distributes bid invitations or requests for proposals; receives and analyzes bids, quotes, proposals, and awards the contract.
  • Teams with all departments to resolve purchasing problems including quantity, quality, invoicing, and returns as necessary.
  • Negotiates pricing on purchases of goods and services.
  • Utilizes SAP to evaluate demand, create POs, and manage vendor master files.
  • Collaborates with other departments to initiate and implement cost reduction activities, including active involvement in SMART (LEAN) events.
  • Manages and improves vendor performance by maintaining vendor performance data, publishing scorecards, performing risk assessments, and conducting vendor audits.
  • Monitors the quality and timeliness of materials and goods supplied; follows up the status of purchase orders with vendors to ensure timely delivery; and communicates status of orders with internal customers.
  • Coordinates deliveries with Shipping/Receiving Department.

The Buyer will be required to interact regularly with a diverse audience both internal and external to the Company and at a variety of levels and functional backgrounds. The Buyer’s duties are broad‑based, requiring an ability to identify priorities and make adjustments and decisions where necessary, and to perform the role in a positive, confident, autonomous manner.

Qualifications

  • ERP / SAP experience strongly desired.
  • Strong Excel skills mandatory; comfortable with data extraction, generating custom reports, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with proven ability to interact effectively and positively with other employees, management, and external professionals.
  • Strong problem recognition and problem‑solving skills are a must, as is self‑motivation, assertiveness, and a positive attitude.
  • Skill in preparing and analyzing specifications and bids.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work independently and to effectively manage projects, including coordination of work and working with other departments, through to completion.
  • Must be detail orientated and able to provide accurate data and information.
  • Able to deal effectively with deadlines and reprioritize work when necessary.
