Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States is seeking a Procurement Specialist to obtain materials and services, analyze costs, and drive supplier performance. You will expedite orders, manage contracts, and collaborate cross-functionally to optimize purchasing strategies.

Responsibilities include issuing POs, maintaining records, and leading supplier evaluations. Travel to supplier sites and Peterson locations may be required; strong ethics and compliance are essential.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in a closely related field or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience with business transactions in heavy industrial environments
  • Purchasing certification is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Familiarity with purchasing laws, policies, codes, or regulations
  • Ability to use purchase order systems and corporate purchasing card
  • Ability to conduct supplier visits, evaluations, and interviews
  • Ability to travel to supplier locations and Peterson locations
  • Punctual, regular, and predictable attendance required
  • Drug screen and background check required

Responsibilities

  • Obtain materials, components, equipment, and services
  • Perform cost analysis and volume planning for assigned commodities
  • Expedite purchases to meet required delivery schedules
  • Monitor cost, schedule, and scope to assure quality and value
  • Design and implement cost savings proposals, alternative sourcing, and supplier evaluation criteria
  • Develop new contracts, including terms and conditions, pricing, and stocking agreements
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders and other purchasing transactions
  • Follow purchasing policies and procedures and place vendor orders
  • Develop supply strategies through cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Operations, and Support groups
  • Prepare, issue, and analyze supplier information, proposal, and quotation requests
  • Generate supplier cost, price, and value analyses
  • Design and support purchasing practices and supplier contract strategies
  • Measure procurement process effectiveness and recommend improvements
  • Maintain and evaluate the approved supplier list
  • Establish and sustain ethical supplier relationships
  • Keep the supervisor informed of commodity and supplier issues
  • Assist end users with purchasing processes and systems
  • Prepare management reports and maintain procurement records
  • Travel to supplier and Peterson locations and operate a vehicle as needed
  • Process invoice discrepancies
  • Train and lead Associate Buyers
  • Review credit applications and resale certificate forms for management signatures

Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree from a fully accredited college in a closely related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience with business transactions, preferably in a heavy industrial environment
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience accepted
  • Purchasing certification is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Familiarity with purchasing laws, policies, codes, or regulations
  • Ability to use purchase order systems and corporate purchasing card
