Job summary

OnPoint Data Strategy seeks a Business Solutions Developer who can take an undefined problem and own the solution through production. You will work with business users to define requirements, build, deploy, and maintain the application, combining UI, API, and data layers.

Expect to replace legacy systems, automate processes, and incorporate AI into existing apps. You will engage with departments to gather requirements, own project schedules, and deliver end-to-end solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience building end-to-end applications: UI, API, and data layer.
• Experience shipping REST APIs and data pipelines.
• Ability to own a project from requirements through production.
• Experience with AI development tools (Claude Code or Codex).
• Writing SQL against large relational databases.

OnPoint Data Strategy is looking for a Business Solutions Developer who can take an undefined business problem and own the solution all the way through production.

This is not a traditional development role where a product manager writes the requirements and hands you a ticket. You will sit down with the people doing the work, understand the problem, determine what should be built, build it, deploy it, and own the project through completion.

Some projects will replace legacy applications and databases. Others will automate manual processes, build new data pipelines, or incorporate AI into the applications our teams already use.

We care less about whether your résumé says front-end, back-end, data engineer, or project manager. We care whether you can figure out a business problem and build the working solution.

What you will work on:

• Building internal applications and services used daily by staff across departments.
• Decommissioning legacy systems and databases.
• Data pipelines that bring outside data into the OnPoint data ecosystem.
• AI models, retrieval, and agents built into the applications people already use.
• Gathering requirements with each department.

Who this role is for:

• You want to own a solution from the requirements conversation through production.
• You are comfortable starting from a problem that has not been defined yet.
• You would rather talk to the business user than read a ticket.
• You go get requirements from the people who have them.
• You manage your own project schedule and deadlines without someone tracking you.
• You have built complete applications end-to-end. You have personally written the user interface, the API behind it, and the database schema underneath it for the same application.

Who this role is NOT for:

• Someone who prefers to sit heads down and code all day.
• Someone who wants a finished spec handed to them.
• Someone who wants to work exclusively on either the front end or back end and hand the rest of the solution to someone else.
• Someone who needs a project manager assigned to them.

Required Experience:

• Software development experience in a business environment
• Ability to build UI, API, and data layer
• Running your own projects, including the schedule, the dependencies, and reporting status
• Building and shipping REST APIs
• Building end-to-end solutions with AI development tools (Claude Code or Codex)
• Writing SQL against large relational databases
• Building automated data pipelines that run on a schedule
• Gathering requirements from business users and writing the specification yourself

Preferred Experience:

• Python
• Cloud platform experience, Azure preferred
• ETL and data warehouse design
• Record matching and deduplication on large datasets
• LLM integration in production applications
• Retrieval augmented generation
• Authentication and access control
• Source control, CI/CD, and automated testing
• Migrating data and applications from an old system to a new one

Plus:

• SQL Server
• Data science or machine learning
• Working with large consumer or donor files
• PII and data privacy requirements
