Department: Prestage Poultry Science

About the Department: The main purpose of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science is to support the North Carolina poultry industry research, teaching, and extension activities. Poultry is the largest income-producing commodity in the state, and the department works hand in hand with different producers, commodity organizations, allied industries, and other state agencies in educating and distributing information gleaned from research and extension activities at the university level. The Department conducts research and extension projects in physiology, biotechnology, microbiology, nutrition, toxicology, genetics, and management with the ultimate goal to improve the production and wholesomeness of poultry as a food product.

Position Overview: This position will coordinate business and fiscal functions within the Prestage Department of Poultry Science and supervise employees. It provides high-level guidance to departmental faculty, staff, and students and serves as an important link to diverse external constituencies, including agricultural industry, commodity groups, alumni, extension agents, and funding agencies.

This position must anticipate, manage, and administer departmental financial responsibilities and related communications. The successful candidate will need experience with grant budgets.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Computer software skills (MS Word, Excel, or other similar software).
  • Ability to manage a budget, prepare spreadsheets and reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to professionally interact with faculty, staff, students, and outside constituents.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and reliability are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in accounting work, including knowledge of basic accounting principles and functions; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials.
  • Working knowledge of Business Operations at NC State or in the UNC System (Service Now, WolfReports, etc.).

Required License or Certification:

  • Valid NC Driver's License required.
