JOB TITLE: BUSINESS PERMIT SUPPORT SPECIALIST
DEPARTMENT: PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
DIVISION: BUILDING DEVELOPMENT
SALARY: $18.1976/HRLY.
CLOSING DATE: UNTIL FILLED


Job Summary/Scope


Performs administrative and permitting functions within the Building Development Division. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative duties in support of the office staff, boards and commissions.
  • Coordinates permit activities with other personnel.
  • Arranges times and notifies participants of meeting times and locations.
  • Processes all administrative documentation associated with issuance of building permits, includes checking applications for completeness and for conformance to appropriate codes.
  • Records minutes and transcribes results of hearings and meetings of boards and commissions as directed.
  • Assists with new business licenses and directs business owners through the licensing process.
  • Assists the Building Development Division in issuance of building permits, trade licensing and scheduling inspections as needed in the absence of permit clerks.
  • Completes periodic reporting requirements in accordance with established schedules.
  • Maintains all files related to Division’s functions.
  • Maintains and processes permits and archives permits.
  • Provides customer service on the phone and at the counter.
  • Assists building inspectors and Plans Review Coordinator with secretarial duties.
  • Processes testing, licensing, licensing renewals, insurance and bonding for the appropriate trades.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

Other Duties and Responsibilities


Performs all other related duties as assigned.

  • Must have high level of skill in dealing with the public where difficult situations are commonplace.

Material and Equipment Directly Used


Use a variety of office equipment including a computer, printer, copier, scanner, 10-key, telephone and other standard office materials and equipment. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements


Work is performed in an office setting with a controlled environment. Periods of prolonged standing when assisting the public. Work involves sitting, bending and reaching. Seldom need to lift more than 10 to 20 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested and approved by the appropriate supervisor.

Education


High School diploma or equivalent required.

Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment.
