Job summary

Base is seeking an MBA intern for the summer to take on a defined slice of high-stakes work—such as integrating a recent acquisition, a commercial partnership, or market entry—and drive it to a decision. You’ll own end-to-end projects, build models and dashboards, and work directly with data from the warehouse, installations, and markets.

You’ll collaborate across engineering, market operations, manufacturing, and finance, gaining hands-on exposure to real business levers while shaping

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an MBA, returning for your second year in the fall.
  • 2–5 years of pre-MBA experience.
  • Comfort in data; SQL already, or a real willingness to be writing it in week one.
  • Comfort operating without a map; you create structure where none exists.
  • Low ego, high ownership. We are people others want to work with, and there is no “that's not my job”.
  • Fluency working alongside AI; you use it to multiply your output and know when to check its work.

Responsibilities

  • Cover one part of the business for the summer: know its plan, its unit costs, and its tradeoffs better than anyone outside the team.
  • Own a discrete project inside it end to end — the forecast it runs on, a market or product entry, a workstream in an acquisition integration, or the scoreboard it's missing.
  • Structure the problem yourself; define the goal, name the owners, write the memo that forces the tradeoff.
  • Build the analysis yourself — the model, the scoreboard, the one-pager — and defend the assumptions to the people who have to hit them.
  • Get into the data yourself; our warehouse, our install and market data, our AI tooling, rather than waiting on someone to pull it for you.
  • Work across functions without formal authority; rally owners in engineering, market operations, manufacturing, accounting, and customer operations.
  • Spend time where the money actually gets spent: ride along on an install, sit with market operations, walk the manufacturing floor.

Job description

About Base

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

The business operations team at Base is a lean group of generalists who take high-stakes, not-very-defined problems, give them structure, and drive them to completion. As our MBA intern, you'll get a real piece of that work for the summer, not a side project. You'll pick up a defined slice of whatever the team is running right now (today that's the integration of a recent acquisition; it could also be a commercial partnership or a market entry) and drive it to a decision.

What You'll Do
  • Cover one part of the business for the summer: know its plan, its unit costs, and its tradeoffs better than anyone outside the team.

  • Own a discrete project inside it end to end — the forecast it runs on, a market or product entry, a workstream in an acquisition integration, or the scoreboard it's missing — and leave behind something that still runs without you.

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing an MBA, returning for your second year in the fall.

  • 2–5 years of pre-MBA experience.

  • Comfort in data; SQL already, or a real willingness to be writing it in week one.

  • Comfort operating without a map; you create structure where none exists.

  • Low ego, high ownership. We are people others want to work with, and there is no “that's not my job”.

  • Fluency working alongside AI; you use it to multiply your output and know when to check its work.

About the Team

The Base business operations team is responsible for some of the company's highest-leverage outcomes: financing our growth, commercial partnerships, acquisitions and integrations, new market and product entries, and the programs that span too many teams to have a natural owner. It is a set of small teams of generalists who work directly with Base's founders, pick up the problem that matters most, build the structure and analysis it needs, and hand back something that runs itself.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values
  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
