Job summary

HUD is seeking a Business Operations generalist to help build and run HUD’s operating systems. You will work closely with the Chief of Staff and founders across hiring, finance, marketing and events, with cross-functional projects.

This early-career role offers a fast-paced environment, mentoring, and broad exposure to every part of the company. Ideal for those with startup experience and a drive to build scalable systems.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years of experience, including 2 years in management consulting and 1–2 years at an early-stage startup in business operations or strategy and operations.
• Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous problems into scalable systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with evidence through a writing sample.

Responsibilities

• Co-own hiring and people operations with the Chief of Staff, including recruiter management and onboarding.
• Own day-to-day finance operations including payroll, expenses, invoices and vendor payments.
• Lead cross-functional projects turning business questions into clear recommendations.
• Draft public-facing content such as case studies, blog posts and partnerships announcements.
• Plan and run events including community gatherings and team offsites.
• Utilize AI to automate and improve operations.

HUD is building infrastructure to create RL training data and evals for frontier AI agents, as well as a marketplace to sell these to frontier labs through the HUD marketplace. About the role

We’re looking for a Business Operations generalist to help build and run HUD’s operating systems. You’ll work closely with our Chief of Staff and founders across hiring, finance, marketing and events, and cross-functional special projects.

This role is an exceptional learning opportunity for an early-career generalist who already has some early-stage startup experience. The work is both extremely fast-paced and extremely wide-ranging, giving this person unique access to every part of the company. The Chief of Staff is also personally committing to mentoring this person for success at HUD and beyond.

Responsibilities

This role is intentionally broad and will change depending on the company’s needs, but the focus of your first 3-6 months may include (but are not limited to):

• Co-own hiring and people operations with the Chief of Staff, including recruiter management, feedback tracking, work trial management, and onboarding

• Own day-to-day finance operations including transitioning payroll providers, expense tracking, invoice management, and vendor payments

• Own or support cross-functional projects with the Chief of Staff and founders, turning open-ended business questions into clear recommendations and scalable systems

• Draft public-facing content such as case studies, blog posts, social media posts, partnership announcement, etc.

• Plan and run events including community gatherings to team offsites

• Miscellaneous operations - everything from notarizing documents for our Singapore entity to onboarding a fractional general counsel

• Active but thoughtful use of AI to enable and automate all of the above

Experience

You may be a good fit if you have:

• 3–4 years of experience, including 2 years in management consulting (MBB or top-tier boutique) and 1–2 years at an early-stage startup in business operations or strategy and operations

• Demonstrated experience taking ambiguous projects from initial problem structuring through implementation, with an eye on building scalable systems instead of point solutions

• Strong organization and attention to detail, with the judgment to prioritize competing demands and keep commitments on track

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills—please link a writing sample

• High agency balanced with good judgement on when to ask for more input or help to get things done on time

• Comfort moving between strategic questions and everyday operational work, and learning unfamiliar parts of the business quickly

Strong candidates may also have:

• Experience using AI to automate workflows, not just for research or summarization

• Built a system or process from scratch and iterated it as the company grows

• Experience working with technical teams or ability to learn technical topics quickly at a conceptual level

• Comfort working with leadership internally and externally, and confidence in voicing your thoughts in such rooms—especially in dissent

• Team Size: ~25 people currently, mostly full-time in-person, but some remote.

• Our team: Our team includes 4 International Olympiad medalists (IOI, ILO, IPhO), serial AI startup founders, and researchers with publications at ICLR, NeurIPS, etc.

• Company stage: We have 8 figures in funding and are scaling profitably and quickly to meet very strong demand.

Logistics

• Employment: Full-time.

• Location: San Francisco office only for this role.

• Visa Sponsorship: We provide support for relocation and visas for strong full-time candidates to the US or Singapore.

• Timeline: Applications are rolling. The process is 2 technical interviews and a 2-3 day work trial.
