Job summary

Merchants Fleet seeks a Business Intelligence Engineer to bridge Enterprise IT/Data Architecture with Finance, building scalable data infrastructure, pipelines, and reporting environments for financial operations and securitization modeling.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in data/analytics engineering or related roles, with finance focus preferred.
• Strong SQL skills including complex queries, CTEs, and window functions.

About the Role

As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you'll serve as a critical technical bridge between our Enterprise IT/Data Architecture and Treasury teams. In this role, you'll design, build, and optimize data infrastructure, pipelines, and reporting environments that support financial operations, audit processes, and securitization modeling.

You’ll work closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure complex financial data is accurate, secure, scalable, and readily available for reporting and analysis. • Collaborate with fellow engineers to acquire, transform, and integrate source data across platforms.
• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of enterprise data assets and reporting layers.
• Document business rules, data definitions, metrics, and logic to promote transparency and shared understanding.
• Support internal and external audits through clean reporting datasets and traceable data lineage.
• Build automated validation, monitoring, and error-handling processes to proactively identify and address data quality issues.
• Serve as a trusted data partner for finance stakeholders, helping bridge the gap between business requirements and technical solutions.

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or in a similar role, preferably supporting financial data and reporting environments.
• Advanced SQL expertise, including experience writing, debugging, and optimizing complex queries, stored procedures, common table expressions (CTEs), and window functions.
• Experience designing data models and semantic layers for business users.
• Strong understanding of data architecture, transformation, and integration principles.
• Ability to clearly communicate implementation approaches, dependencies, and technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Knowledge of financial concepts such as forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to partner directly with finance leaders and business stakeholders.
• Initiative, curiosity, and a passion for solving complex business and data challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Snowflake strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Engineering, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
• Additional business education, such as Finance coursework, MBA, or related experience preferred.
• Experience supporting financial reporting, treasury operations, audit processes, or securitization data environments is highly desirable.
