Sonwil Logistics is seeking a Business Intelligence & Data Solutions Specialist in West Seneca, NY. The role develops and maintains reporting and analytics using SQL Server, Power BI, SSRS, and Excel to transform operational data into trusted datasets and actionable insights.

You will collaborate with leaders to translate requirements into robust data models, measures, and dashboards, promoting self-service analytics while exploring AI-enabled technologies.

Qualifications

  • Degree or technical training in information systems, data analytics, CS or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, data models, and analytics using Power BI.
  • Experience with SSRS/SSAS, OLAP or related Microsoft reporting tech is beneficial.
  • Strong Excel skills for business analysis and reporting.
  • Experience transforming OLTP data into structured reporting datasets.
  • Understanding of relational DB design, data warehousing, BI concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and improve reports, dashboards, scorecards, and analytical tools using Power BI, SSRS/SSAS, Excel, and related Microsoft tech.
  • Transform transactional data into structured datasets and data models for reporting and analytics.
  • Design and maintain reporting tables, views, transformations, and calculations for trusted information.
  • Develop reporting solutions with organization-wide performance measurement and drill-down to operations, customers, locations, or departments.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into data models, measures, reports, and dashboards.
  • Develop reporting to identify trends, exceptions, opportunities, and actionable items.
  • Administer Power BI resources: workspaces, apps, refreshes, distribution, usage, and security.
  • Maintain accuracy and performance of reporting solutions and troubleshoot issues.
  • Maintain consistent definitions for measures, dimensions, and KPIs per governance.
  • Promote self-service analytics with documented, trusted datasets accessible via Excel, Power BI, and other tools.
  • Coach users on interpreting data and incorporating it into day-to-day management.
  • Develop testing/validation to ensure accuracy and reliability of outputs.
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues with developers and users.
  • Maintain documentation for datasets, rules, definitions, reports, dashboards.
  • Evaluate AI-enabled analytics and emerging technologies while ensuring data quality and governance.

Job purpose

The Business Intelligence & Data Solutions Specialist is responsible for improving how the company organizes, presents, and uses data to manage operations, measure performance, and support decision-making.

This hands-on individual contributor role will develop and maintain reporting and analytical solutions using the company's Microsoft data environment, including SQL Server, Power BI, Reporting Services, and Excel. A key focus will be transforming transactional data from operational systems into well-structured, reliable, and reusable reporting datasets that provide users with consistent definitions and trusted information.

The position will work directly with users and leaders across the organization to understand business processes, translate requirements into effective analytical solutions, and coach users on how to use data to manage operations and people. The role will combine strong technical and analytical skills with business acumen and an ability to turn data into meaningful insights and actionable information.

The position will also explore emerging AI and data-access technologies that can make trusted company information easier for employees to access, understand, and use.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and improve reports, dashboards, scorecards, and analytical tools using Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Excel, and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Transform transactional data from company operational systems into structured datasets and data models designed for reporting, analytics, and reuse across the organization.
  • Design and maintain reporting tables, views, transformations, measures, calculations, and other data structures that provide consistent definitions and trusted business information.
  • Develop reporting solutions that support both organization-wide performance measurement and appropriate drill-down to individual operations, customers, locations, departments, or other business entities.
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand business processes and translate operational and management requirements into effective data models, measures, reports, and dashboards.
  • Develop reporting that helps users identify trends, exceptions, opportunities, and areas requiring action rather than simply presenting data.
  • Administer Power BI reporting resources, including workspaces, applications, report distribution, data refreshes, usage, and appropriate security access.
  • Maintain the functionality, accuracy, relevance, and performance of existing reporting solutions and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Establish and maintain consistent definitions for key business measures, dimensions, calculations, and performance indicators in alignment with company data governance practices.
  • Promote self-service analytics by providing users with understandable, documented, and trusted datasets that can be effectively used through Excel, Power BI, Reporting Services, and other approved tools.
  • Coach users and leaders on interpreting data, selecting appropriate measures, developing effective reports, and incorporating data into day-to-day management practices.
  • Develop appropriate testing and validation processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of reports, datasets, measures, and analytical outputs.
  • Identify and resolve data quality and consistency issues in collaboration with application developers, business users, and other technical resources.
