Job description

Web3 has created a new era of decentralised finance, democratising financial access. However, it has fallen short in generating mass consumer applications and remains largely centred around finance. We believe blockchain technology is a cornerstone for the future of new, open Internet applications.

Today, there are limits to what you can build on-chain. Many factors constrain this, from the cost of running applications to the fundamental performance limitations of existing blockchains. We believe that new technologies can unlock a new class of real-time applications that normally must be built on Web2 foundations. Enabling these systems to be built on-chain will allow the free movement of businesses and users between online platforms, creating what we call a true virtual society.

We are building Somnia, a fast and cost-effective EVM-based blockchain, to achieve this. Somnia is a layer-one blockchain with full EVM compatibility, capable of processing over 400,000 transactions per second with sub-second latency and low fees. This will unlock a new wave of on-chain applications. Initially, we are focusing on gaming, metaverse, and social experiences. But we are not even 100% certain of what can be built with the technology we are creating.

Somnia is being developed by Virtual Society Foundation, an independent organisation initiated by Improbable, a British start-up that has been at the forefront of building virtual worlds for over a decade. VSF received initial funding from MSquared, which raised $150 million from investors including a16z crypto, SoftBank, Mirana Ventures, CMT Digital, and SIG.

Your Mission

As a Business Developer at Somnia, your focus will be on identifying and closing business deals and partnerships that align with our company’s strategic goals. You will develop, maintain, and nurture a pipeline of leads, partners, and strategic initiatives.

You will play a key role in shaping our strategy and product roadmap by tracking industry trends, monitoring competitors, and gathering external feedback to share with the team. Collaborating closely with the team, you’ll help develop and execute go-to-market strategies to achieve company targets, drive growth, and shape the product roadmap.

Role Overview

As a Business Developer at Somnia, your focus will be on identifying and closing business deals and partnerships that align with our company’s strategic goals. You will develop, maintain, and nurture a pipeline of leads, partners, and strategic initiatives.

You will play a key role in shaping our strategy and product roadmap by tracking industry trends, monitoring competitors, and gathering external feedback to share with the team. Collaborating closely with the team, you’ll help develop and execute go-to-market strategies to achieve company targets, drive growth, and shape the product roadmap.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify business opportunities and strategic partnerships that are aligned with the company’s overall goals.
  • Drive deals to closure, maintain relationships, do regular follow-ups, manage contract negotiations, and ensure alignment between all stakeholders.
  • Support the development of the ecosystem by actively sourcing, onboarding, and supporting projects that align with the company’s vision, ensuring long-term growth and strategic value.
  • Build and maintain a structured pipeline of leads, partners, and strategic initiatives with clear categorization based on partnership size, priority, and timeline.
  • Make the CRM the central source of truth for all business development efforts, ensuring accurate tracking, reporting, and insights.
  • Develop and execute GTM strategies tailored for Web3, ensuring alignment with product development, marketing, and ecosystem growth objectives.
  • Collect and synthesize feedback from partners and prospects to refine product offerings and market positioning.
  • Follow industry trends, keep an eye on competitors, and provide insights to enhance overall strategy.
  • Attend online and offline events to generate leads and convert them into closed deals.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in business development within the blockchain space, preferably in early-stage projects.
  • Experience in startups and establishing business development processes from scratch.
  • Technical knowledge sufficient to explain complex concepts to prospects and gauge interest in Somnia, though not necessarily a tech wiz.
  • Strong network of Web3 key players to tap into.
  • Proven success in developing and executing business and growth strategies for Web3 projects.
  • Experience working with dApps, blockchain projects, and games.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
About You
  • You are deeply involved in NFTs, DAOs, DeFi, and Web3 in general.
  • You understand the Web3 community’s mindset and how to navigate the space.
  • You have a strong presence on platforms like X, Farcaster, and other Web3 channels.
  • You know how to engage with the Web3 community effectively and close deals.
