Job summary

EDP Renewables is seeking a Business Development Senior Manager to lead platform-wide growth across our distributed generation portfolio in North America. You will identify markets, develop entry strategies, and close seven-figure solar and storage deals with C&I customers and offtakers.

This role requires autonomy, complex B2B negotiations, and collaboration with greenfield development, policy, and BESS teams to build a sustainable pipeline and drive deal flow.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience in renewable energy, distributed generation, C&I solar, or energy storage.
  • Proven ability to close seven-figure B2B solar/storage deals and manage complex negotiations.
  • Experience collaborating with investors, utilities, developers, and consultants.

  • Provide analytical, technical, and strategic support during contracting and development of solar and storage assets.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure sustainable pipeline growth and successful project execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement of commercial workflows and platform performance.

Job Description:

The Business Development Senior Manager is a senior commercial leader responsible for driving platform-level growth across the company's distributed generation platform. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this individual contributor will identify, evaluate, and execute opportunities in key markets as well as devise entry strategies into new regional markets, while winning new business across Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Front-of-the-Meter (FTM), Community Solar, and battery energy storage (BESS). This role serves as a market expansion strategist and commercial architect, helping shape where and how the company pursues growth.

This role requires the ability to execute complex B2B offtake negotiations combined with practical development experience across both solar and BESS. The Lead Expert will lead go-to-market initiatives, develop market-entry strategies, establish high-value partnerships, generate pipeline, and win new business. The successful candidate will be capable of evaluating new geographic markets, assessing commercial viability, and translating market intelligence into actionable growth strategies.

Main Accountabilities:
  • Strategic Market Entry & Pipeline Creation
  • Lead assessment of emerging regional markets and recommend go-to-market strategies for C&I solar, community solar, FTM storage, and other distributed generation opportunities.
  • Lead high-value, complex B2B sales cycles to close seven-figure solar and BESS offtake transactions with wholesale electricity customers and corporate offtakers.
  • Originate, negotiate, and structure Joint Development Agreements (JDAs), framework agreements, and partnerships with corporate offtakers, local developers, brokers, and technology providers to expand pipeline velocity.
  • Provide advanced analytical, technical, and strategic support during the contracting and development of solar and battery storage assets.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders - specifically the greenfield development team, policy team, and BESS lead - to ensure sustainable pipeline growth and project execution.
  • Drive deals through internal approval processes by compiling institutional documentation and managing relationships with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
  • Proactively propose and complete continuous improvement initiatives to optimize commercial workflows and platform performance.

Who are we looking for :
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in the renewable energy industry, specifically within distributed generation, C&I solar, or energy storage.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of demonstrated transaction closing experience handling complex B2B sales cycles for seven-figure ($1M+) clean energy deals.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of distributed solar and BESS development, including interconnection processes, utility tariffs, permitting considerations, project commercialization, and market-entry evaluation.
  • Proven experience working with financial investors, equipment manufacturers, utilities, and consultants to navigate multi-disciplinary, cross-functional projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce (or equivalent CRM/pipeline tracking tools).
  • Very strong collaboration, communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management and other parts of the project including technical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete them within specified timeframes.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal direction in both structured and unstructured work environments
  • Demonstrate ability to lead cross-functional, multi-departmental teams
  • Strong organizational, communications, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise preferred
Physical demands & working conditions:
  • Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment
  • Walking: Ability to walk .5 to 2 miles per day, including across unpaved and rough surfaces when on project sites.
  • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written verbal, diagram, or scheduled form
  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form

Salary hiring range: 132,120-165,150

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry and are one part of many compensation, benefits, and other reward opportunities we provide.
