Job description

Work arrangement: In person at Harmoni’s NYC office

Compensation: 75,000–85,000 base salary, plus a performance-based bonus and benefits

About Harmoni

Harmoni is a manufacturing technology company building a new kind of operating system for the factory floor.

Our factory orchestration platform connects machines, people, materials, and data in one intelligent operating layer. By combining real-time information, workflows, automation, and AI, Harmoni helps manufacturers improve throughput, reliability, and on-time delivery.

We are a growing, highly collaborative team based in New York, NY, and Akron, OH. We are venture-backed and recently raised our Series A to accelerate the growth of our platform and team. We operate with a flat structure, move quickly, and give people meaningful responsibility for their work.

This is an opportunity to help introduce transformational technology to manufacturers and build the commercial foundation of a growing company.

The Role

Harmoni is looking for a driven and thoughtful Business Development Representative to help us identify and engage manufacturers that could benefit from our platform.

You will be responsible for researching prospective customers, reaching out through phone and email, holding initial conversations, and creating qualified opportunities for Harmoni’s sales representatives. You will often be a prospect’s first interaction with Harmoni, so your ability to communicate clearly, ask intelligent questions, and build credibility matters.

This is not a role built around sending generic messages at high volume. Manufacturing sales requires curiosity, persistence, and an ability to understand how different businesses operate. You will learn about prospective customers, identify relevant challenges, and communicate why Harmoni may be worth exploring.

You will work closely with our sales representatives and company leadership to refine our target accounts, messaging, qualification process, and outreach strategy. As you learn, you will help us understand which messages resonate, which prospects are the best fit, and how we can improve our sales process.

What You’ll Work On
Prospecting and Outreach
  • Research manufacturing companies, facilities, and relevant decision-makers.
  • Identify prospective customers that align with Harmoni’s target profile.
  • Conduct outbound outreach through phone calls, email, and other appropriate channels.
  • Develop personalized outreach based on each prospect’s business, role, and potential challenges.
  • Follow up consistently and professionally across multiple touchpoints.
  • Test and improve messaging, call approaches, and outreach sequences.
  • Represent Harmoni with credibility, curiosity, and professionalism.
Initial Meetings and Qualification
  • Conduct initial conversations and discovery meetings with prospective customers.
  • Learn about each prospect’s operations, priorities, challenges, and decision-making process.
  • Clearly explain Harmoni’s platform and its potential value to manufacturers.
  • Determine whether an opportunity is a strong fit for Harmoni and worth advancing.
  • Capture accurate notes, relevant business context, and agreed next steps.
  • Coordinate effective handoffs to the appropriate sales representative.
  • Help prospects move smoothly from initial interest into a deeper sales conversation.
Pipeline and Sales Operations
  • Maintain accurate prospect, activity, and opportunity information in Harmoni’s CRM.
  • Manage follow-ups and ensure promising conversations do not lose momentum.
  • Work toward individual activity, meeting, and qualified-opportunity goals.
  • Collaborate with sales representatives on target accounts and outreach priorities.
  • Share feedback from the market to improve positioning, messaging, and sales materials.
  • Help build repeatable prospecting and qualification processes as the company grows.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Harmoni’s customers, product, and manufacturing use cases.
What Success Looks Like
In Your First 90 Days
  • You develop a strong understanding of Harmoni’s platform, customers, and value proposition.
  • You learn our target customer profile, sales process, qualification criteria, and CRM.
  • You can confidently explain Harmoni’s value and conduct effective initial conversations.
  • You establish a consistent rhythm of thoughtful phone and email outreach.
  • You are scheduling and conducting qualified meetings with prospective customers.
  • You build productive working relationships with Harmoni’s sales team and leadership.
Over Time
  • You consistently create qualified opportunities for Harmoni’s sales representatives.
  • Your outreach is targeted, relevant, and effective rather than generic.
  • Prospects leave initial meetings with a clear understanding of Harmoni and the next step.
  • Sales representatives receive organized handoffs with useful context and accurate notes.
  • You develop a strong understanding of manufacturing operations and customer challenges.
  • Your market feedback helps Harmoni improve its messaging, targeting, and sales process.
  • You become a trusted and important part of Harmoni’s commercial team.
What We’re Looking For
  • One or more years of experience in business development, sales development, outbound sales, customer-facing work, or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confidence making outbound calls and initiating conversations with new people.
  • The ability to write clear, concise, and personalized prospecting emails.
  • The curiosity to learn how manufacturing businesses operate and understand their challenges.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to ask thoughtful follow-up questions.
  • Good judgment when qualifying opportunities and determining appropriate next steps.
  • A high degree of organization and attention to detail.
  • Comfort managing multiple prospects, conversations, and follow-up commitments.
  • Persistence and resilience without sacrificing professionalism or good judgment.
  • The ability to receive feedback, adapt quickly, and continuously improve.
  • Comfort working independently in a fast-moving environment.
  • Willingness and ability to work full-time, in person from Harmoni’s New York City office.
Bonus Points
  • Experience in a BDR, SDR, inside-sales, or outbound-prospecting role.
  • Experience conducting initial discovery or qualification meetings.
  • Experience working with manufacturers or industrial companies.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing operations, automation, industrial technology, or supply chains.
  • Experience using a CRM and sales-engagement tools.
  • A track record of meeting or exceeding activity, meeting, or pipeline goals.
  • Experience working at an early-stage or rapidly growing company.

You do not need to match every bonus qualification. If you are an effective communicator, enjoy learning about businesses, and are motivated by starting conversations and creating opportunities, we encourage you to apply.

The Right Person for This Role

You are curious, persistent, and comfortable starting conversations with people you have never met. You are not discouraged when a prospect does not respond immediately, but you also understand that effective outreach requires relevance and good judgment—not simply more volume.

You prepare before reaching out. You want to understand what a company makes, how it operates, and why Harmoni might matter to the person you are contacting. You listen carefully, ask useful questions, and do not force a conversation when there is no genuine fit.

You are comfortable picking up the phone, writing a thoughtful email, leading an initial meeting, and handing a qualified opportunity to a sales representative. You take pride in accurate notes, clear next steps, and making the transition easy for both the prospect and the sales team.

You are competitive and motivated by measurable goals, but you also care about how those results are achieved. You want to improve your craft, learn from feedback, and become increasingly effective over time.

Most importantly, you want to help manufacturers discover technology that can meaningfully improve how their factories operate.
