Job summary

Steampunk is seeking a Business Development Representative (BDR) in the McLean, VA area to identify new market opportunities and build a top-of-funnel pipeline for the CRE team. The role requires occasional travel to client sites and regular office presence 2–3 days per week.

The ideal candidate will have a business mindset, strong communication skills, and familiarity with Federal acquisitions processes. You will engage at industry events and develop account plans to drive new business.

Qualifications

  • Must work from Steampunk’s office 2-3 days per week and willing to travel to customer site.

Responsibilities

  • Identify new sales opportunities for the CRE team to qualify and close.
  • Represent Steampunk at in-person and virtual industry events.
  • Conduct opportunity research using GovWin, Sam.gov, APFS and similar tools.
  • Build opportunity and account plans to communicate strategies.
  • Enter and maintain new opportunities in Salesforce CRM.
  • Perform analysis of competitive and industry trends to identify pipeline and partnerships.
  • Develop win strategies with capture resources and associated opportunity marketing.
  • Develop, organize, and execute client call plans, assessing win probability and shaping acquisition strategies.
  • Interact with Steampunk’s management, staff and customers and follow through on action items.

Overview

Steampunk's Business Development Representative (BDR) is responsible for identifying and exploring new market opportunities through outbound channels. The primary measure of success is building top a funnel pipeline to assist the Customer Relationship Executive (CRE) team members in qualifying and closing new business.

Successful candidates will have an aptitude for sales and thrive in an environment where they can learn and grow in a fast-paced environment without very structured day-to-day responsibilities.

Contributions
  • The BDR is responsible for identifying new sales opportunities for the Customer Relationship Executive (CRE) team to qualify and close.
  • Represent Steampunk at in-person and virtual industry events including customer industry days, industry associations, and vendor events.
  • Conduct extensive opportunity research using government contracting tools such as GovWin, Orange Slices, sam.gov, APFS, etc.
  • Build opportunity and account plans to communicate plans and strategies with others.
  • Enter and maintain new opportunities in the Salesforce CRM platform.
  • Perform analysis of competitive and industry trends to identify new vehicles, opportunity pipeline and partnerships.
  • Works with capture resources to develop the overall win strategy and performs associated opportunity marketing.
  • Develop, organize, and execute client call plans, assessing win probability, and working with clients to shape acquisition strategies to respond to and win business with new and existing customers.
  • Interacts routinely with all levels of Steampunk’s Sector, Division, and Operations management, staff and customers and owns, prioritizes and follows through on action items.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience, preferably in a professional business environment or internship(s)
  • Must have familiarity with Steampunk's Design Intelligence Delivery Methodology
  • Familiarity with Federal acquisitions processes
  • Strong organization, research, and planning skills
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Must be able to work from Steampunk’s office at least 2-3 days per week and willing to travel to customer site

About steampunk

Steampunk relies on several factors to determine salary, including but not limited to geographic location, contractual requirements, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The projected compensation range for this position is $60,000 to $90,000. The estimate displayed represents a typical annual salary range for this position.
