Job summary

Carta is seeking a Business Development - Venture Capital Law Firm Manager to expand its network with law firm partners and deepen VC fund penetration. You will work across Sales, Marketing, Delivery, Product, Engineering, and Support, traveling as needed to engage partners and drive strategic conversations.

You will build scalable partnerships, identify new opportunities, and help shape the ecosystem for Carta’s fund administration and investor tools.

Qualifications

  • Significant knowledge of Venture Capital funds and the broader industry.
  • Strong familiarity with how law firms work with VC funds.
  • Relevant network of contacts within the community, specifically encompassing law firms.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and networking skills, with experience leading meetings with key leaders and decision makers.
  • Deep understanding of SaaS business models.
  • Relevant Business Development/Partnerships/Sales or other industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create champions for Carta’s VC investor products by partnering with law firms and forming scalable strategies.
  • Cross-functionally collaborate to collect feedback and drive roadmap for channel strategy with law firms.
  • Develop and execute plans to convert law firms into preferred partners.
  • Coordinate and work with Sales to activate mutual books of business with law firms.
  • Lead discovery on additional ways Carta can add value for law firm partners.
  • Drive referrals from law firms to achieve substantial growth.

As a Business Development - Venture Capital Law Firm Manager: You will expand Carta’s distribution and market share by helping us deepen working relationships with key partners—and developing relationships with new ones. You will represent Carta as a valuable contributor to the Venture Capital ecosystem, helping us to drive VC fund penetration.

  • Create champions for Carta’s VC investor products, including fund administration, fund formation, SPV formation, valuations, KYC/AML, to support venture capital funds within the investment management ecosystem by partnering with, developing scalable strategies for, and engaging with law firm fund formation practices
  • Work cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Delivery, Product, Engineering, Implementations, and Support to collect feedback from law partners, relay internally, and drive cross-functional conversations and roadmap for a strategy on deepening our mutual client penetration with preferred law firms
  • Develop and execute strategies to convert law firms where Carta does not have deep relationships into preferred partners
  • Coordinate and work alongside our Sales team to activate mutual books of business with law firms
  • Lead discovery on additional paths for Carta to add value to our law firm partners to drive new business to Carta
  • Drive non-linear referral motions with law firm partners to reliably drive a 30%+ increase in referrals from law firm partners
  • Create awareness of Carta’s fund and investor tools for venture capital funds
  • Represent Carta in the field, meeting with current and prospective partners and attending industry events on Carta’s behalf (at least 25% travel or more)
The Team You’ll Work With

You’ll be joining our Business Development team. The Business Development - Venture Capital Law Firms Manager will represent Carta in-market and advance the company’s efforts to grow its network, deepen existing relationships, and develop additional business opportunities with law firm partners for venture capital funds. The Business Development team works cross-functionally to drive ecosystem partnerships to accelerate our growing business. Ideal candidates will be energized by generating new business through our law firm relationships, building and managing impactful external relationships, driving cross-functional collaboration, digging into data, finding scalable and repeatable best practices, constructing strategic communications, helping to change practices, and identifying venture capital managers across a rapidly evolving industry.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Prior experience practicing as a fund formation / investment fund attorney, paralegal, or compliance provider
  • Prior experience supporting back office functions at a venture capital or private equity fund
  • Prior experience managing relationships with high-profile ecosystem partners, specifically law firm partners, but including audit firms, investment funds, consultants, or other technology companies
  • Understanding of fund formation, regulations that apply to funds, fund administration, audits, or valuation services.
Salary

Carta’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, exceptional benefits, and, for applicable roles, commissions plans. Our cash compensation (salary + commission if applicable) for this role is:

  • $180,000 OTE in New York City, New York
