Job description

Business Development Manager - Steel & Metals Distribution Leadership · Houston, TX (Hybrid)

Hybrid · Houston, TX (in-office collaboration required, up to 50% travel)

Are you a sales leader who loves developing people as much as growing the business?

We're a growing metals service center and processing company with over 65 years in the industry, providing bulk steel distribution, value-added processing, and project management solutions to fabricators and industrial customers across the Gulf Coast and nationwide. Following recent enterprise growth, we're building out our commercial leadership team and looking for someone who wants to lead, not just manage.

You won't be closing deals yourself, you'll be coaching the team that does.

What you'll do
  • Lead, coach, and develop a geographically dispersed team of Business Development Representatives
  • Run weekly 1:1s, review account strategies, and hold the team accountable to activity and pipeline standards
  • Partner closely with Marketing, Inside Sales, and Purchasing to align lead flow, trade shows, and commodity/inventory planning
  • Own reporting hygiene: accurate call notes, activity logs, and pipeline tracking in Salesforce
  • Step in as an emotionally intelligent mediator when scheduling, capacity, or resource conflicts come up
  • Conduct field ride-alongs, support high-value project vetting, and attend key industry trade shows
What we're looking for
  • 3+ years directly managing, developing, and holding a sales or business development team accountable
  • 7+ years in business development or sales within metals, steel distribution, or industrial supply (also open to adjacent backgrounds like building materials distribution, industrial/MRO distribution, energy equipment, or heavy manufacturing)
  • Hands-on CRM experience (Salesforce preferred) and comfort working within an ERP system
  • Assertive, direct communication style with high emotional intelligence
  • A "teacher, not doer" mindset: someone who builds people up instead of doing the work for them
  • Bonus points: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or Sales; active involvement in Houston-area industrial or trade associations
  • FSA & HSA options
  • Safe Harbor 401(k) with company contributions
  • Generous PTO and paid holiday schedule
  • Real opportunity to build a national commercial team, not just maintain one
  • Ready to lead a team and leave a lasting impact?
