Job summary

ZRG Careers is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive growth for environmental and geotechnical services. You will secure commercial contracts for subsurface soil sampling, rock coring, and site characterization, while partnering with operations to align opportunities with field capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related technical field.
  • Five+ years in technical sales, project management, or business development within environmental or geotechnical engineering.
  • Working understanding of soil mechanics and drilling methods (hollow-stem auger, mud rotary, core, sonic) with materials testing knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire clients and manage relationships with civil engineers, developers, and public-sector project managers.
  • Identify regional growth opportunities in transportation, energy, and infrastructure markets.
  • Coordinate with operations on capacity, drill-rig availability, and crew scheduling.
  • Plan and attend industry events to promote company capabilities and market presence.
  • Travel up to 75% to support client development and regional growth.

Job description

A Business Development Manager in the environmental and geotechnical industry will drive company growth by securing commercial contracts for subsurface soil sampling, rock coring, and site characterization services. This role will partner closely with operations to develop new client relationships, grow and manage existing accounts, and align business opportunities with the company's field capabilities.

The primary focus will be expanding business within the company's existing footprint, including the Rocky Mountain states.

Target clients include environmental and geotechnical engineering firms, general contractors, and energy developers. The position serves as a bridge between client needs and field operations, helping expand market share in infrastructure, heavy construction, and related development sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client acquisition and relationship management: Build and maintain strong relationships with civil engineers, developers, public-sector project managers, and other key decision-makers.
  • Market strategy: Identify regional growth opportunities across transportation, energy, municipal infrastructure, and heavy construction markets.
  • Operational coordination: Align business development targets with operational capacity, drill-rig availability, and crew scheduling.
  • Marketing and industry presence: Plan and attend conferences, seminars, client meetings, and other industry events to promote company capabilities.
  • Travel: Travel up to 75% of the time to support client development and regional market growth.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: Five or more years of experience in technical sales, project management, or business development within environmental or geotechnical engineering.
  • Technical knowledge: Working understanding of soil mechanics, drilling methods such as hollow-stem auger, mud rotary, core drilling, and sonic drilling, as well as construction materials testing.
