Job summary

Cambrex Corp. is seeking an ambitious Business Development Director to grow its Drug Substance CDMO business. The role focuses on developing relationships with existing and new clients, pursuing development, tech transfer, and manufacturing opportunities, and guiding opportunities through the Cambrex system.

The ideal candidate has 6–8 years in BD, strong hunter skills, and the ability to engage with scientific and procurement stakeholders. Occasional travel and CRM collaboration are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related life-science required.
  • 6–8 years in business development with CDMO sales experience.
  • Experience with API, fine chemicals and custom technologies preferred.
  • Knowledge of cGMP regulatory environments.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue development, tech transfer and commercial manufacturing opportunities for drug substance.
  • Build strong client relationships, nurture leads, and stay visible in networks and trade organizations in the territory.
  • Identify industry and customer needs and provide value-added solutions.
  • Liaise between Cambrex groups and external customers.
  • Lead initiatives to introduce new projects per Cambrex strategy at existing and new accounts.
  • Be a collaborative team player willing to share ideas and drive results.
  • Travel to client and Cambrex sites and attend trade shows.
  • Enter and maintain customer data in Salesforce for management and forecasting.

Job Overview

Cambrex is looking for an ambitious and energetic Business Development Director to grow our Drug Substance CDMO business. A successful Business Development Executive will be a strong hunter with the ability to develop mutually beneficial relationships with both existing and potential clients. The responsibilities of the Business Development / Sales Professional will include, but not be limited to the following:

Responsibilities
  • Aggressively pursue development, technical transfer, and commercial manufacturing opportunities for drug substance manufacturing.
  • Build strong client relationships, forging new business partnerships, nurturing and qualifying leads, and maintaining high visibility within networking and trade organizations within the defined territory.
  • Knowledge of how to identify industry and customer needs and actively contribute to provide solutions that will generate value for the customer.
  • Be an important part in the ongoing liaison between groups internal to Cambrex and the external customer.
  • Lead the initiative to introduce new projects and business opportunities pursuant to Cambrex´s overall business strategy both at existing and new accounts.
  • Be a trustworthy and interactive team member who is willing to share and expand on good ideas.
  • Travel to client and Cambrex sites and attend trade shows.
  • Enter and maintain customer data within CRM (Salesforce)for client management and forecasting.
Qualifications/Skills
  • Entrepreneurial personality, energetic and accountable in accomplishing the objectives of the business
  • Strong “hunting” skills
  • Ability to inspire customer confidence, promote and develop strong client to business relationships and become the provider of choice for existing and new clients.
  • Ability to effectively engage in discussions with procurement, technical, chemical and pharmaceutical scientists in order to generate business opportunities.
  • Ability to handle multiple customers (Effective time management, good organization skills effective use of resources and assessment of priorities to opportunities).
  • Strong relationship building skills across disciplines (technical, commercial and management).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (The ability to communicate internally and externally to the organization with the credibility necessary to influence sales and customer decisions).
  • An understanding of cGMP manufacturing requirements as well as regulatory and environmental issues relevant for the pharmaceutical industry.
  • A solid team player who can maintain cohesiveness between the customer, R&D Manufacturing and procurement teams . Also comfortable in a project centered organization.
  • The ability to work effectively within a multicultural environment.
  • A high level of energy, creativity, and personal motivation.
  • The determination and persistence to build a business.
Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements

Education:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related life-science degree is required.

Experience:

A minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in business development, with proven track record in selling CDMO services. Experience in API, fine chemicals, and custom technologies is desired. Commercial experience in pharmaceutical or related industry is preferred.
