Qualifications

  • 6+ years of success in business development or partnerships.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent is a plus.
  • Experience structuring and closing distribution, licensing, or platform partnerships.
  • Ability to manage multiple deals across stages with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with partner-facing proposals.
  • Understanding of app store mechanics and device partnerships.
  • Highly organized, data-driven, and able to work with ambiguity.

About the role Age of Learning seeks a Business Development Director to own end-to-end partnerships that drive distribution, content licensing, and audience growth. You will convert concepts into signed launches while coordinating with cross-functional teams. This role requires a self-guided dealmaker who manages a high volume of multi-threaded workflows. You will be responsible for identifying and securing strategic partnerships that expand the reach of the company's learning platforms. The position demands a proactive and disciplined professional who can operate independently while aligning with corporate objectives. You will act as the primary architect of growth initiatives that connect the brand with new audiences. Success in this role will be measured by the creation and performance of scalable, revenue-generating partnerships.

Key facts Location: Glendale, CA (Hybrid) Engagement: Full-time Compensation: $140,000.00 to $180,000.00 annually

What you'll do You will identify and prioritize new distribution, licensing, and platform opportunities aligned with company objectives. You will craft outreach sequences and negotiate commercial terms, including revenue share, minimum guarantees, and marketing commitments. You will manage a full partnership pipeline across multiple stages, flagging risks and blockers early to ensure timely progression. You will draft contracts, NDAs, and statements of work in close collaboration with Legal teams to ensure compliance and clarity. You will coordinate with Finance on deal economics, invoicing, and payment terms for licensing and distribution agreements to maintain accuracy. You will work with Product, Engineering, and Marketing to launch and support live partnerships, including preload integrations, in-app events, co-marketing campaigns, and editorial features. You will manage ongoing relationships with live partners, overseeing performance reviews, renewals, and expansion opportunities to maximize lifetime value. You will track and report on partnership performance metrics such as conversion and redemption rates to inform strategic decisions and optimize outcomes. You will prepare and deliver regular status updates to cross-functional and executive stakeholders to maintain transparency and alignment. You will monitor market trends and competitive partnership activity to identify new opportunities and maintain a competitive edge. You will evaluate potential partners through due diligence, assessing fit, risk, and potential impact on brand equity. You will contribute to the development of partnership playbooks and best practices to streamline future initiatives.

Requirements You must hold 6+ years of proven success in business development or partnerships, ideally within consumer subscription products, edtech, family or kids media, or mobile apps. A Bachelor's degree is required; an MBA or equivalent experience is a plus to further demonstrate strategic capability. You have a record of structuring and closing distribution, licensing, or platform partnership agreements, including negotiating commercial terms with precision. You manage multiple deals simultaneously, prioritizing across stages from prospecting to renewal without losing focus or momentum. You collaborate effectively with Legal, Finance, Product, and Marketing to structure deals and coordinate launches with seamless execution. You communicate clearly in writing and verbally, with experience drafting partner-facing proposals, decks, and negotiation correspondence that persuades and informs. You understand app store mechanics, such as Apple App Store and Google Play, as well as OEM preload/device partnerships or card-linked programs to navigate technical integrations. You have experience with content licensing, IP partnerships, or media rights negotiation to secure valuable and compliant agreements. You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating with ambiguity in a fast-moving, partner-facing role that requires adaptability. You demonstrate strong analytical skills, using data to assess partner health, forecast potential, and guide strategic adjustments. You possess excellent time management and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a dynamic environment. You are committed to maintaining the highest level of professionalism and integrity in all external communications and negotiations.
