Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders is seeking a Business Development Coordinator to join our Marketing and Business Development team. The role partners with Private Equity + Investment Funds practice group attorneys to plan and deliver high-quality materials for strategic growth initiatives.

You will support client development through research, pitch development, and event coordination, while working with communications and practice management teams to promote the firm’s expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required and/or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of marketing and business development experience.
  • Prior successful work history supporting a legal practice or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to cultivate business with current and prospective clients.
  • Conduct client, prospect, industry, competitor, and market research/analysis to inform targeted business development efforts.
  • Assist in creating high quality, tailored pitch materials and responses to RFPs and client presentations.
  • Assist with development of legal directory and award submissions and league table submissions.
  • Assist with distributing client alerts, newsletters, blogs, and other thought leadership pieces.
  • Coordinate planning and execution of events, webinars, and speaking engagements including logistics.
  • Promote successes and legal expertise with the group’s attorneys via media and publishing opportunities.
  • Identify cross practice connections to increase internal visibility.
  • Collect and organize matter data for Foundation, the firm’s experience system.

The Business Development Coordinator is an important client service role and an integral part of the Marketing and Business Development team that works closely with the firm’s Private Equity + Investment Funds practice group.The Business Development Coordinator will work collaboratively with practice group attorneys and members of the Business Development team on timely planning and delivery of high-quality materials in support of the attorneys’ key strategic growth initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to cultivate business with current and prospective clients.
  • Conduct client, prospect, industry, competitor, and market research/analysis to inform targeted business development efforts.
  • Assist in the creation of high quality, tailored pitch materials, responses to RFPs and client presentations.
  • Assist with the development of legal directory and award submissions and regular league table submissions.
  • Assist with the development and distribution of client alerts, newsletters, blogs, and other thought leadership pieces.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of events, sponsorships, webinars and speaking engagements. This includes venue research, coordinating budget and logistics, drafting marketing communications (invitations, presentations, collateral, etc.), coordinating with vendors, program development, on-site support, tracking and follow up activities.
  • Work with the firm’s communications team to effectively promote the successes and legal expertise of the group’s attorneys, including identifying media, publishing, and speaking opportunities that align with the profile-raising objectives of the practices.
  • Identify cross-practice connections and opportunities for practices to increase internal visibility.
  • Collect and organize matter data for inclusion in Foundation, the firm’s experience management system.
  • Handle InterAction-related functions—develop and maintain marketing lists and business development activities, research, reports, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with the firm’s Practice Management department to assist with internal organizational efforts of the group, as appropriate, including participation in practice group meetings.
  • Identify and respond to internal and external client inquiries in a timely manner and seek feedback/follow-up as appropriate.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with practice group attorneys, Marketing and Business Development Department peers, and other administrative departments of the firm.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Able to work independently while keeping BD leadership and attorneysapprised of progress on identified BD projects and initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with teams to promote consistent and efficient workflow processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide high-quality service and partner effectively with diverse groups of people at various levels within the firm as well as external contacts.
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required and/or any combination of experience, education or training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of marketing and business development experience, preferably within a law firm or a professional services organization.
  • Prior successful work history supporting a legal practice or similar experience.
