Job description

We're building the Headway for birth & postpartum doulas. Loula's platform and provider network support doulas by simplifying the process of accepting health insurance.

Doulas typically operate outside of the traditional healthcare system and face administrative challenges when accepting health insurance. Loula is revolutionizing the birth and postpartum care industry by making doula care more accessible to families who may struggle to pay out of pocket.

Loula handles credentialing, contracting, and revenue cycle management, allowing doulas to focus on providing excellent care to families.

The Role

We’re looking for a part-time (20-25 hours/week) Business Development Associate to work closely with Loula’s founder to grow our doula provider network and build referral partnerships with community-based organizations and healthcare providers. You’ll be key in expanding our reach and strengthening connections with birth workers and local partners serving pregnant and postpartum families.

What You’ll Do
  • Use outreach strategies (email, phone, LinkedIn) to connect with independent doulas, collectives, training programs, and community partners.
  • Educate prospective doulas about Loula’s platform, communicating our value and answering questions.
  • Qualify leads and coordinate intro or follow-up calls with our founder for smooth transitions.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach and lead statuses in our CRM, ensuring organized follow-ups.
  • Identify potential referral partners like midwifery practices, clinics, and community organizations, and initiate collaboration discussions.
  • Gather insights from outreach efforts to inform messaging and strategy.
  • Stay informed about our services, target audiences, and referral ecosystem to serve as a knowledgeable contact.
Benefits & Culture
  • Mission-driven work: Make a difference by making doula care more accessible.
  • Inclusive team: Join a diverse, supportive, and collaborative environment.
  • Growth opportunities: Potential to evolve into a full-time role as the company expands.
Candidate Requirements
  • At least 1 year of experience in outreach, sales, operations, consulting, or managing complex processes.
  • Excellent communicator, able to explain ideas clearly and build trust.
  • Organized, methodical, and reliable in managing outreach and follow-ups.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passionate about perinatal health equity, community care, and supporting birth workers.
Details
  • Time commitment: 20-25 hours/week, available between 3pm-6pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Contract role with potential for growth.
  • Compensation: $25–35/hour.
  • Experience level: Entry-level to Associate.

Loula is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

About Us

Loula is a healthtech startup making full-spectrum doula care more accessible by enabling doulas to accept health insurance, including Medicaid/Medi-Cal. We handle credentialing, contracting, and revenue cycle management, allowing doulas to focus on delivering quality care. We are a mission-driven, early-stage startup working to improve perinatal care access. Our small, inclusive team values diversity, collaboration, and trust. As we grow, so do opportunities for learning, leadership, and impact.

Our team of 7 operates with a flexible, hybrid schedule, typically working in our DUMBO office twice a week. The role is fully remote, with occasional in-person team gatherings in NYC.

You will collaborate primarily with Loula's CEO and founder during your daily work and hiring process.
