Job description

The Data Steward for U.S. Wealth Management plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, quality, and strategic use of data across the wealth management lifecycle. This role supports the development and execution of data frameworks that align with regulatory requirements, client experience goals, and business strategy. The Data Steward will have oversight responsibilities for all US Wealth data and will be responsible for enacting data quality solutions alongside the business, Tech & Ops, and the Data Management office. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of financial services data, particularly in wealth management, and will collaborate across business, technology, and compliance teams to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and actionable.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Governance & Compliance

  • Establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures tailored to the U.S. Wealth Management business.
  • Ensure data practices align with regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC, FINRA, GDPR, CCPA) and internal risk frameworks.
  • Maintain data dictionaries, metadata, and lineage documentation for key wealth management data domains (e.g., client, account, product, transaction).

Data Quality & Issue Management

  • Monitor and improve data quality across client onboarding, portfolio management, advisory services, and reporting.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of data integrity issues in partnership with operations, technology, and compliance teams.
  • Define and track data quality KPIs and implement remediation plans as needed.

Strategic Data Enablement

  • Support the Wealth Management Foundational data strategy by aligning data assets with business priorities such as personalization, digital engagement, and advisor productivity.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance data usability and accessibility for analytics, reporting, and AI-driven insights.
  • Contribute to data platform modernization efforts, including cloud migration and data cataloging initiatives.
  • Support the Business Insights and Analytics team to prioritize requests for data and reporting

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, product managers, data engineers, and analytics teams.
  • Facilitate alignment on data definitions, ownership, and stewardship responsibilities across front, middle, and back-office functions.
  • Participate in data governance councils and working groups to drive enterprise-wide consistency.

Reporting & Operational Support

  • Design and deliver dashboards and reports to monitor data quality, usage, and compliance.
  • Support internal audits, regulatory exams, and risk assessments with accurate and timely data documentation.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training programs to promote data literacy and stewardship across the Wealth Management organization.

Qualifications:

  • 5–7 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related roles within financial services, preferably in wealth management or private banking.
  • Strong understanding of wealth management products, client lifecycle, and regulatory landscape.
  • Excellent SQL querying is required
  • Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation), data quality frameworks, data visualization tools, and data querying.
  • Experience with Agile
  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate across business, technology, and compliance teams.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Information Management, or related field; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CDMP, CFA, FRM) a plus.

Salary :

$79,800.00 - $148,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
