University of California Davis Health is seeking a seasoned professional to lead the Business Continuity and Emergency Management programs in Sacramento. The role combines program management with hands-on analysis and reporting to ensure resilience across departments.

The position is hybrid, offering on-site and remote work with a 100% schedule. Requires a Bachelor’s degree and relevant healthcare continuity experience; Master’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in a relevant field; substitutions allowed.
  • Experience with emergency management or business continuity programs.
  • Experience leading major change initiatives with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient with spreadsheet, word processing, presentations, email tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of business continuity or emergency management concepts.
  • Familiar with healthcare standards (The Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Strong analytical, decision-making and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop queries in SQL to extract data for reports.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task under deadlines.

  • 60%: Manage the Business Continuity Program and related activities.
  • 30%: Lead Emergency Management initiatives and preparedness efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field and / or equivalent experience / training. Relevant fields include (but are not limited to) business continuity planning, business administration, disaster management, higher education management, organizational development, education, planning, operations analysis, public administration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Experience with implementation of emergency management or business continuity programs including hazard analysis, mitigations and preparedness planning, as well as response to and recovery from disaster events.
  • Experience managing major change initiatives, bringing diverse needs and constituent groups together to create improvements.
  • Extensive experience working with spreadsheet, word-processing, presentations, e-mail, and web explorer software required. Ability to learn and apply other personal computer-based software as required.
  • In-depth knowledge of business continuity and/or emergency management. Must have skills, knowledge and abilities to apply professional knowledge and expertise from disciplines of business continuity and emergency management using original and innovative approaches and techniques to solve complex problems.
  • Awareness and understanding of the requirements of The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services standards as applicable to Emergency Management in healthcare settings.
  • Must have analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills to understand complex processes and their interrelationships; to comprehend technical and analytical information; to generate alternative courses of action; and to set objectives for decisions.
  • In depth knowledge of data base systems development and administration. Demonstrated skills to write and execute custom queries using SQL language to extract system data for analysis and produce custom reports.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize overlapping activities, multi-task and work with interruptions while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions, to organize writing into logical format, and to express ideas assertively, clearly, and concisely. Skills to proofread and edit data to correctly and accurately report and reflect the status of reports to a variety of audiences with different levels of understanding and needs.
  • Demonstrated skills to express ideas clearly and to adjust complexity of message to level of audience.
  • Strong demonstrated meeting facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to give engaging, persuasive and effective presentations to large and small audiences. Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently under general direction of management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional) certification.
  • Master's degree is preferred or highly desirable, plus experience in relevant field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of healthcare institutions; experience in an academic or healthcare setting desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in the design of web-based business processes is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work with all levels of hospital staff including senior administration, UCOP Risk Services and emergency management / business continuity peers.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
