Job summary

Nusenda Credit Union is seeking a Business Banking Underwriter to underwrite, decision, and structure conventional and SBA loan requests. You will ensure SOP adherence and drive high quality credit memos while partnering with Credit Operations leadership.

Three to five years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Finance are required. Proficiency in Excel, CRM, LOS systems and Microsoft Office is essential.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of similar or related experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field.
• Knowledgeable in SBA 7(a) and 504 eligibility and documentation.
• Advanced Excel skills with experience in loan origination and CRM systems.
• Must be able to handle multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, deal with sensitive information and handle problem resolution.
• Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and all internal systems.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite conventional and SBA business loan requests within established policy limits using approved templates and scoring models.
• Analyze financial statements and tax returns to develop global cash flow and key ratios, evaluate collateral and guarantor support, and recommend approval, decline, or counter terms.
• Apply Business Banking policy metrics for System Decisioned, Application Plus, and Judgmental Financial Underwriting.
• Identify deviations, document policy exceptions with mitigation and escalate per approval authority matrix.
• Ensure each loan request is properly structured for purpose, repayment source, collateral, and guarantor support.
• Confirm SBA program eligibility for 7(a) and 504 when applicable; coordinate SBA checklists with Relationship Managers through LOS.

We are currently seeking a Business Banking Underwriter to join our organization. As a Business Banking Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting, decisioning, and structuring conventional and Small Business Administration (SBA) business loan requests within defined policy limits. You'll ensures SBA standard operation procedures (SOP), program eligibility and documentation, applies approved underwriting templates and scoring models, and recommends terms and mitigations that balance member experience and prudent risk. You'll drive high quality credit memos and clear approval packages, partnering with the AVP of Credit Operations as needed.

What You'll Do:

• Underwrite conventional and SBA business loan requests within established policy limits using approved templates and scoring models.
• Analyze financial statements and tax returns to develop global cash flow and key ratios, evaluate collateral and guarantor support, and recommend approval, decline, or counter terms consistent with risk appetite of the Credit Union.
• Apply Business Banking policy metrics for System Decisioned, Application Plus, and Judgmental Financial Underwriting.
• Identify deviations, and document tracked policy exceptions with mitigation and elevate per approval authority matrix while maintaining required tracking

Ensure each loan request is properly structured for purpose, repayment source, collateral, and guarantor support.

Confirm SBA program eligibility for 7(a) and 504 when applicable. Coordinate SBA checklists with Relationship Managers through loan origination system (LOS) to ensure documentation requirements are met and identify items that must be satisfied prior to approval or closing.

• Advanced Excel skills with experience in loan origination and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
• Must be able to handle multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, deal with sensitive information and handle problem resolution.

Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and all internal systems as affiliated with the department. Ability to adapt quickly to change and proactively communicate.
