Job Description

This Commercial Manufacturing and Supply Chain (CMSC) Business Analytics and Reporting (BAR) Associate Director will be responsible for acting as a business analyst to lead and drive complex cross-functional operational analytics solutions within the Manufacturing & Supply Chain organization to promote data-driven decision making.

The role acts as a bridge between CMSC business functions and IT enablement teams, capturing cross-functional operational needs and translating them into technical use cases and requirements. Business functions include Supply Chain, External Manufacturing, Technical Operations, QC, and other outside functions like Quality, Commercial, and Clinical teams within Vertex's Small Molecule or Cell and Gene Therapy programs. Additionally, engagement with enablement partners in DTE and DSS is essential to ensure the digital capabilities of CMSC evolve with organizational needs.

Key responsibilities include gathering requirements for metrics, KPIs, and visuals, building relationships with stakeholders, understanding business needs, and ensuring data and analytics support operational excellence. Knowledge of drug development, manufacturing, and supply chain processes is crucial, as is familiarity with analytics solutions, data models, and BI tools such as PowerBI, Snowflake, and Collibra. Data governance, quality, and integrity are fundamental to success, along with promoting adoption of reports and dashboards to maintain CMSC's data-driven culture.

This position is based in Boston, with a hybrid work model requiring three days onsite per week.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders and enablement partners, addressing both business and technical needs.
  • Organize and maintain analytics requirements across CMSC, including use cases, forums, and delivery methods.
  • Translate business needs into technical use cases, personas, and data models for analytics and dashboards.
  • Maintain documentation standards, including data dictionaries and report catalogs.
  • Manage project communications, including meeting documentation and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Focus on data integrity, quality, and governance, participating in related forums.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in Pharma manufacturing or supply chain.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, engineering, math, data analytics, computer science, or related.
  • Experience with supply chain and manufacturing systems (e.g., Rapid Response, OPM, MES, LIMS).
  • Proficiency in translating business needs into technical visualizations and dashboards, with experience in dashboard rollout and adoption.
  • Working knowledge of analytics implementations, relational databases, data wrangling, and BI tools like PowerBI, Snowflake, and Collibra.
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and deliver accurate results independently, balancing attention to detail and strategic overview.
  • Experience managing projects in a matrixed organization with cross-functional stakeholders.
