Job description

Responsibilities

Valero is seeking a Business Analyst to join the Products & Risk team within the Commercial Supply & Trading department at the Valero Headquarters in San Antonio. The responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting commercial floor operations through business analytics and related tasks.
  2. Monitoring and tracking daily price risk inventory related to refinery activity, sales, purchases, transfers, exchanges, and secondary costs.
  3. Reviewing and interpreting contract terms to ensure accurate hedging and contract compliance, including price calculations, risk, and title transfer, fees, and other issues.
  4. Identifying issues with positions and pricing, and communicating with Marketing, Supply and Transportation, Accounting, and Contract Administration departments to resolve discrepancies.
  5. Monitoring trades and transfers to ensure alignment between paper and physical positions, and reviewing gains and losses affecting positions.
  6. Managing portfolios for designated market regions, determining price risk positions, and collaborating with traders to minimize market risk exposure.
  7. Supporting Trading and Supply departments in explaining monthly Mark-To-Market (MTM) results for Business Unit Reporting (BUR).
  8. Reconciling monthly activity and price risk positions with accounting inventory.
  9. Providing guidance and training to less experienced team members.
  10. Participating in special projects as assigned.

This position is salaried exempt, meaning overtime pay is not applicable.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
  • Preferred: Degree in industrial distribution, energy management, management, business, finance, accounting, math, marine, science, or engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience in logistics, transportation, business/financial analysis, marine operations, military, or oil & gas/refining/petrochemical industry.
  • Preferred: Experience in roles such as scheduling, business analysis, trading analysis, or commercial analysis.
  • Must be able and willing to work onsite at Valero Headquarters in San Antonio, TX.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
