Ahtna, Inc. is seeking a Business Analyst to provide analytics and administrative support for strategic initiatives. The role focuses on documenting financial and operational processes, budgeting, forecasting, and improving cost control through data-driven insights.

Level II–III responsibilities include mentoring staff, monthly reporting to leadership, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and FAR. The position offers a competitive benefits package and a Monday–Friday schedule at the Anchorage

This position is primarily responsible for providing business administrative and operations support for strategic initiatives related to process documentation. The Business Analyst will assist with internal process documentation to standardize any financial and some operational processes. Assist with the development and implementation of financial techniques for financial planning and control. Monitor monthly activities such as EAC review, timely client invoicing and Accounts Receivable follow-up.

Provides analytical and operational support for business processes, financial reporting, and project administration. Works under general supervision to gather, analyze, and organize data, document processes, assist with budgeting and forecasting activities, and support business operations initiatives.

The Business Analyst requires skills in influencing and coaching others, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, organizational knowledge, self-management, and strong operational experience.

The salary range for this position is dependent upon level:

Level II: $99,720-$123,652 per year

Level III: $124,117-$155,766

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

Business Analyst II

  • Review, map, document, and evaluate business processes and procedures to improve efficiency and standardization.
  • Monitor project performance, contract billings, job costs, budgets, and revenue recognition activities.
  • Support proposal pricing reviews and business case analyses.
  • Collaborate with operational and functional departments to identify business needs and recommend solutions.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for management.
  • Works closely with project management to maintain accurate job-cost records, contract billing, job budgets, change orders, and percentage of completion for job tasks.
  • Assist with the creation of the fiscal year budget.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual requirements, accounting standards, and applicable regulations.

Business Analyst III

  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff in the development, maintenance, and analysis of Excel-based tools and spreadsheets, while mentoring employees to enhance their Excel skills and data management capabilities.
  • Assist with and oversee monthly reporting to AOR Directors (utilization reports, project reports, etc.).
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, systems implementations, and special projects.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for management and executive leadership.

Supervisory Responsibilities

1-3 Finance staff employees.

Minimum Qualifications

All levels

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management, or other related fields.
    • Experience may be substituted for education on a 1:1 basis
  • Thorough understanding of Excel
  • Experience with enterprise software such as Cognos/Deltek or similar systems
  • Experience with a variety of financial studies to analyze & report on key metrics
  • Experience with creating & maintaining financial reporting analysis
  • Experience reviewing & analyzing existing business operational processes & procedures for efficiencies
  • Must be familiar with GAAP and FAR

Level - II

  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years of relevant working experience and/or specialized training

Level - III

  • Eight (8) or more years of relevant working experience and/or specialized training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
  • Experience in the construction and/or environmental industry
  • Familiar with federal market work in the 8(a) disadvantaged, small business, and sole source and competitive markets. An understanding of the FARs and other state, local, and federal regulations is necessary.

Physical Demands

Frequent sitting for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper, reaching with hands and arms for items above and below desk level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the office with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 2 hours.

Work is performed in an office setting with the ability to speak and receive phone communications often. Work requires computer usage with strength, dexterity, coordination, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and video display terminal, and other office equipment. Moderate travel may be required to shareholder communities, subsidiary offices, and other locations as needed.
