About the Role
Our client is a long-established public safety software company whose solutions support mission-critical operations, including 911 dispatch, law enforcement, fire services, and mobile applications used by first responders. Following a recent acquisition, the organization is focused on modernizing its software portfolio, reducing key-person dependency, and documenting decades of institutional knowledge currently held by the founder.
This role will serve as the critical bridge between business stakeholders, legacy systems, and an offshore development team driving modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze legacy applications, documentation, workflows, and existing system behavior to uncover undocumented business rules and functionality.
- Translate institutional knowledge into clear requirements, user stories, specifications, work packages, and acceptance criteria.
- Act as the primary liaison between subject matter experts and offshore developers, ensuring requirements are understood before development begins.
- Consolidate questions, gaps, and ambiguities into structured discussions with stakeholders to minimize interruptions and improve efficiency.
- Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude) to accelerate requirements discovery, documentation analysis, code understanding, and specification development.
- Perform functional validation and high-level QA to ensure modernized solutions preserve mission-critical workflows and edge-case behaviors.
- Participate in discovery efforts for legacy and undocumented products, processes, and operational workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Experience as a Technical Business Analyst, Product Analyst, Systems Analyst, Product Owner, or similar role within software development environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and requirements elicitation skills.
- Ability to transform incomplete or ambiguous information into structured, actionable requirements.
- Experience working directly with software engineering teams.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and navigate complex, fast-moving environments.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools to improve analysis, documentation, or product delivery workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting legacy application modernization or transformation initiatives.
- Familiarity with technologies such as VB6, VB.NET, C#, .NET, WPF, or similar enterprise platforms.
- Experience working with offshore or distributed development teams.
- Background in mission-critical or highly regulated industries such as public safety, emergency services, government, healthcare, banking, or financial services.
Ideal Candidate
- Naturally curious with a "systems detective" mindset.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and uncovering undocumented knowledge.
- Equally effective communicating with business stakeholders and engineers.
- AI-native in their approach to analysis, documentation, and problem-solving.
- Resilient, adaptable, and capable of driving clarity in complex environments.
