Job summary

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking a dedicated Training and Safety Instructor to deliver high‑quality instruction and reinforce safety standards for Metrobus Operators. You will lead classroom and on‑street training, assess trainee performance, and use modern tools to enhance learning outcomes.

The role emphasizes coaching, leadership development, and the application of new routes and equipment knowledge to ensure safe, reliable service across WMATA’s network.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Five years of progressively responsible bus operations experience with a safe record.
• Experience developing and presenting bus operator training or as an instructor.
• Valid driver’s license and CDL with passenger endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Instructs and evaluates operators on routes and training programs.
• Coordinates CDL training and testing for operators.
• Post trainee grades and track progress in the training system (ELM).
• Prepare weekly and periodic performance reports for supervision.
• Mentor employees post-training and address performance concerns.
