Job summary

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is seeking a skilled Training and Safety Instructor to lead the Bus Training Program, delivering classroom and on-street instruction to student operators and mechanics while applying safety standards.

The role involves developing courses, coordinating CDL training, and evaluating trainee progress to ensure safe, reliable service across WMATA’s footprint.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible bus operations experience with demonstrated safe operation of vehicles with no preventable accidents.
• Previous experience in developing and presenting bus operator training or experience as an instructor in a related field.
• Possession of a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without an L restriction, and with passenger endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Develops and prepares training courses and lesson plans and conducts both classroom and in-vehicle bus operation instruction.
• Coordinates and conducts Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training and testing. Requalifies operators in refresher and remedial (accident) training.
• Instructs and qualifies operators on new routes, route changes and new, modified, or emergency equipment.
• Calculates and administers trainee grades on assessments. Posts trainees' grades through ELM.
