Job Title: Bus Operators
Reports to: Operations Supervisors, Operations Manager
Effective Date: 6/1/2017

FLSA: Non-Exempt
Description and Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a bus to transport passengers, exercising sound judgment in all situations including emergencies.
  • Perform skilled work in operating various types of buses, receiving instructions in written and/or oral form.
  • Operate buses safely and efficiently, providing helpful customer service, including answering questions, providing directions, issuing transfers, and explaining services.
  • Arrive on time, dressed in uniform, check in with dispatcher, and provide physical assistance to disabled passengers when needed.
  • Obey traffic laws, monitor fare collection, help passengers understand fare structures, and report traffic/weather issues affecting schedules.
  • Communicate effectively in English via in-person and radio, using courtesy and diplomacy.
  • Use radio to report problems and conduct pre-trip safety and cleanliness checks, reporting discrepancies.
  • Complete reports such as pre-trip inspections, passenger counts, and incident reports legibly and timely.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; minimum age 21.
  • Valid CDL with Passenger (P) endorsement and a clean driving record.
  • Must pass DOT physical exam.
  • Sufficient strength and dexterity to operate controls, sit for up to 6 hours, and lift up to 35 pounds.
Work Conditions
  • Exposure to moving machinery, dust, fumes, gases, noise, and extreme temperatures.
  • Work indoors and outdoors, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and split shifts.
