Job summary

Putnam County Schools seeks a full-time Bus Operator (S108) to transport students safely on assigned routes. The role requires a CDL Class B with Passenger and Airbrake Endorsements, a high school diploma or GED, and approval of a physical, DMV check, and background screening.

You will complete 40 hours of classroom training and 20 hours behind the wheel, maintain pre-trip and post-trip duties, and follow the district's route schedules.

Qualifications

• Holds a high school diploma or GED or TASC.
• Holds a Commercial Driver’s License, Class B, Passenger and Airbrake Endorsements.
• Passes the required physical examination.
• Has three years of experience as a licensed driver.
• Passes the DMV Driving Record Check.
• Passes the Drug/Alcohol Screening.
• Completes 40 hours of required classroom training and 20 hours of behind the wheel training.
• Holds First Aid/CPR Certification.
• Holds a West Virginia School Bus Operator’s Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Operate school buses and other transportation vehicles as assigned.
• Adhere to safety procedures and route schedules.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Maintain accurate transportation records as required.

Salary Range: Putnam County Schools Service Annual Salary based on experience and education level per Putnam County Board of Education salary schedule plus a competitive benefits package to include: PEIA insurance, retirement, life insurance, and free vision and dental insurance.

Job Description: The School Bus Operator is responsible for operating school buses and other school transportation vehicles as provided by the West Virginia Board of Education.

Effective Employment Date: November 17, 2026

Daily Schedule: Pre-Trip – 15 Minutes prior to pullout time (AM only)

Currently - Pull Out Time (AM) – 5:40 - 7:30

Pull Out Time (PM) – 3:15 - 5:10

Post-Trip – 15 Minutes

4:00pm on the closing day
