Job Summary

Our bus operators are the face of UTA! Safety and excellent customer service are the top priorities for this position. UTA is committed to hiring the best and brightest for this critical role. We will provide training on operating UTA passenger buses and maintaining safety for customers and equipment.

Responsibilities include performing standard pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, communicating with dispatch, customers, and supervisors, answering customer questions, collecting fares, and following UTA guidelines, operating rules, and procedures. Minimum Qualifications

  • Education/Training: Completion of UTA’s PAID Bus Operator Training/Certification Program, including passing all required exams.
  • Experience: One year in a customer service role with problem-solving skills and customer inquiry resolution.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver license with no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years.
  • No convictions for DUI, drug-related offenses, or felonies within the past 10 years.
  • Familiarity with the Wasatch Front is preferred but not required.
  • Obtain and maintain a DOT medical card (paid by UTA).
  • Pass the written Class “B” CDL test, including Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsements, before the paid training begins.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and customers, both orally and over radio.
  • Ability to read and understand training materials, manuals, and safety rules.
  • Prepare clear reports of incidents and accidents.
  • Operate passenger buses safely.
  • Report on time for assigned shifts and meet schedule demands.
  • Perform physical activities including walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, balancing, bending, and prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Note: Equivalent education and experience may be considered.

Pay Rate: $20.00/hr during training (up to 11 weeks). Post-training, $25.16/hr with guaranteed increases every six months up to $29.41/hr over four years.
