Job summary

Prosper ISD TRANSPORTATION in Prosper, Texas seeks a Bus Monitor to assist with the safe and efficient transport of students. You will help students board and exit, ensure safety protocols are followed, and support routine attendance and reporting.

The role requires at least 18 years of age, a high school diploma or GED, and ability to read, write, and communicate in English. You will work as part of a team with the bus driver to maintain a secure, supportive environment during trips.

Responsibilities

• Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs.
• Follow established safety guidelines and procedures, supervise students, as well as instruct them on safe entering and exiting the bus.
• Learn and adapt to each student’s specific medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Manage student behaviors according to CPI practices utilizing Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention as a last resort and reporting student discipline problems in a timely manner to transportation.
• Communicate with the Special Needs Route Coordinator regarding student specific needs and behaviors on the bus.
• Assist with completing and maintaining accurate, updated, and timely records and reports including daily attendance.
• Operate equipment according to established safety procedures; ensure safety devices are used correctly.
• Assist with emergency procedures including evacuation of students as needed and if necessary administering first aid.
• Keep the bus clean and attend monthly Safety Meetings.

Primary Purpose:

To assist with the safe and efficient transportation of students.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Student Management – According to I.E.P.
  1. Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs.
  2. Follow established safety guidelines and procedures, supervise students, as well as instruct them on safe entering and exiting the bus.

  1. Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Make sure that all safety equipment is used correctly to safely secure the student according to I.E.P. (i.e. seat belts, harnesses, and help students use safety devices when needed).
  2. Assist with emergency procedures including evacuation of students as needed and if necessary administering first aid.

  1. Assist with keeping the bus clean.
  2. Attend monthly Safety Meetings.
  3. Other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

• Tools/Equipment Used: Specialized and adaptive equipment used by students such as wheel chairs
• Posture: Frequent standing and sitting; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
• Motion: Frequent walking and reaching frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching
• Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting (30 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, assisting non-ambulatory students, lifting and moving adaptive equipment on a daily basis
• Environment: Frequent exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather; exposure to noise and vehicle fumes; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases); work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; may work irregular or prolonged hours
• Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
