Job Description

Ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned routes. Operate a school bus that transports students and authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated locations.

Qualifications
  • Must have a valid Driver's license with CDL Class A or B, including Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Clear background and license check.
  • School bus driving experience is helpful.
  • Certification classes must be completed after hiring.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests.
  • Ability to complete required bus driver safety training.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of student discipline procedures.
  • Ability to manage student behavior.
  • Ability to operate a bus.
Vehicle Operation
  • Follow assigned routes and adhere to schedules.
  • Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
  • Inspect bus for mechanical defects before and after operation; report needed repairs.
  • Report accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures; complete reports.
  • Keep bus clean and fueled.
Student Management
  • Supervise students during boarding and exiting; assist with street crossing.
  • Communicate with teachers and parents regarding student behavior.
  • Maintain discipline and report issues to administrators.
  • Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.
Safety
  • Observe traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Inspect bus (fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, steering) before driving.
  • Ensure emergency equipment is in proper condition.
  • Address unsafe conditions and inform supervisors.
  • Install snow chains during inclement weather.
  • Report hazardous conditions along routes.
Other
  • Operate two-way radio for communication.
  • Work irregular hours as needed.
  • Attend and complete safety training programs.
  • Maintain records of bus mileage, fuel, oil, and passenger counts.
  • Supervisory responsibilities: None.
