Job summary

Job description

Part Time Position (15 hrs per week)

Note: Salary listed is for Class B Drivers, must have CDL with air brakes, passenger and school endorsements

Experience Preferred

The driver shall be responsible for the safe transportation of students to/from school and on extracurricular trips. The driver shall be responsible for the safe operation of their vehicle in accordance with the laws of the State of NJ and the policies of the Board.

The driver shall be in charge of his/her vehicle at all times and shall be responsible for good order. The bus driver shall be the sole operator of the entrance door and the two-way radio. The driver shall clean the interior of the bus each day.

• Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License with a Passenger (P) and jSchool Bus (S) endorsement with air brake endorsement.
• Deliver/pick-up students as directed in a timely manner.
• Perform a pre/post trip bus inspection.
• Accept instructions from the director of transportation/dispatcher verbally or in writing.
• Turn the bus a 90-degree left turn and a 90 degree right turn.
• Drive the bus in a straight line over an irregular surface.
• Back a large bus out of a garage bay using the mirrors of the bus.
• Maintain work related records and prepare work reports as directed.
• Project a positive image for the school district.
• Accept other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation or his/her designee.
• Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
• Serve as a role model for students and other staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic.
• Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.
• Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.
• Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New Jersey school law, construction codes, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
• Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the Director of Transportation, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

DAILY DUTIES

• Report to work on time.
• Perform daily bus inspection and report any defects found to the dispatcher.
• Leave busyard in time to make the first stop at the appointed time.
• Drive at a safe speed to arrive at the school at the appointed time.
• Sweep and clean bus of all litter.
• Make all seatbelts available by untangling them and laying them over the seatbacks and buckles over the seat cushions.
• Complete Pre and Post Trip inspections on the tablet (or physical if tablet malfunctions and return it to the office).
• Return school vehicle keys to the office.
• Accept other duties as assigned.

WEEKLY DUTIES

• Deep cleaning of school vehicles
• Accept other duties as assigned

MONTHLY DUTIES

• Completion of all "Safe Schools" bus driver training
• Accept other duties as assigned

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT

The term of employment shall not exceed one school year. Salary and term of employment shall be determined by the Board of Education

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with NJ State law and the provisions of the negotiated agreement, board’s policy and administrative prerogative.
