Kenosha Transit is seeking bus drivers to work a part-time schedule driving middle and high school students on City shuttle buses during the public school year. Work is performed Monday through Friday. No work is scheduled during weekends, during the summer public school break, established school holidays or when students do not report (teacher workdays). Additional hours ("fill in work") at a higher pay rate may be available to part-time drivers during the school year and/or over established school breaks, but are not mandatory (unless required by Transit Management) nor are these hours guaranteed.
Applicants can select any of these schedule options:
Split Shift - Drivers are scheduled to work a split shift, Monday through Friday, for two (2) hours in the morning from 6:30am-8:30am and two (2) hours in the afternoon from 2:30pm-4:30pm (approximately 20 hours per week).
Mornings Only - Drivers are scheduled to work two (2) hours in the morning from 6:30am-8:30am (approximately 10 hours per week).
Afternoons Only - Drivers are scheduled to work two (2) hours in the afternoon from 2:30pm-4:30pm (approximately 10 hours per week).
This position is represented by Local 998 of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) and is covered by a fair share agreement. This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants and will establish an eligibility list which will be used to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill any other openings in this classification which occur in the next 12 months.
Please note that City employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one classification at any one given time.
Offer of employment (after interview, review of driving record and criminal background check) will be contingent upon the results of a medical examination and verified negative test results for controlled substances. Employees are required to participate in the City's random drug and alcohol testing program.
An applicant's education, training and experience will be analyzed. Written, oral and/or proficiency exams may be required to establish eligibility, and will be scheduled as needed. Appointment to the position will be in accordance with City policy, Civil Service Rules and Regulations, and labor agreement, if appropriate. The City of Kenosha reserves the right to further evaluate only those applicants who best meet the needs of the organization.
